Fast charging tech is really the main focus when it comes to charging our portable devices. We all want larger batteries and that’s actually what’s happening with our smartphones, as most of them are now using larger capacities such as 3,000mAh batteries. That said, so along with the larger batteries, the use of Fast charging technologies such as Quick Charge and Power Delivery is absolutely important. Or else you would be waiting many hours for a full recharge.

As useful and widespread as Quick Charge is, it’s really only used with Android smartphones that are able to use the charging tech. Other devices such as laptops are not able to use Quick Charge. That’s why the universal option for charging our devices is going to be USB-C Power Delivery.

If you don’t know, USB-C is the new standard of charging and connectivity for many portable devices on the market and it’s growing quite rapidly. With the new Android smartphones now using USB-C. One major part of USB-C is the use of Power Delivery, which is basically fast charging that goes with the USB-C standard, and as a result, larger devices such as laptops are now using USB-C.

In this review, we’re going to be going over this METRANS USB-C 3-port Power Delivery wall charger. The use of Power Delivery is becoming more common and if you do own a Power Delivery compatible device, then let’s see if this charger is one that you’re going to want to get for it.

Power

Output Charging:

There are a total of 3 output charging ports with this METRANS Power Delivery wall charger.

USB-C Port

The USB-C port with this wall charger is the one that features Power Delivery, of course, as that’s the only standard for a connection that uses Power Delivery. So Power Delivery is basically fast charging for USB-C compatible devices, and this METRANS charger is able to output a charging speed of 29W. 29W of charging power is a lot better than the standard charging rate that standard USB-C ports are able to output.

With standard USB-C ports outputting a charging speed of 5V/3.0A (15W).

However, most third-party USB-C Power Delivery wall chargers have their Power Delivery port, output 30W of charging speed. We know that it’s not really a big deal at all. At the same time, it’s just 1W, and that’s 1W of charging power that you could have with something like Anker’s single port USB-C Power Delivery wall charger.

Another thing to know is that the limits of Power Delivery charging just doesn’t stop at 30W, as there are Power Delivery chargers that have 45W and 60W of charging power. It might sound unnecessary for a charger to output that much power. However, there is some Power Delivery compatible devices that are able to charge faster than 30W, such as the Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops.

With all that said, we’re not bashing on this charger, we’re simply mentioning that there are more powerful alternatives. This METRANS’ Power Delivery charging power is still very good and can charge Power Delivery compatible laptops quite quickly. It can definitely charge Power Delivery smartphones like the Google Pixel 2 and Essential Phone at their max charging speed; as well as some tablets too.

Another thing to know is for iPhone X and iPhone 8 users, and that would be that you can change your phone with the Power Delivery port on this charger. As you can simply use a USB-C to Lightning charge cable to charge those smartphones. While you can use a USB-C to USB-C charging cable to charge USB-C compatible smartphones.

USB-A Ports:

The other options for charging from this METRANS wall charger is its use of two USB-A ports. Each of the ports has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and at the same time, the max output of the USB-A port section is 2.4A. So you can’t use the max power of both ports at the same time.

Overall, the USB-A ports are really icing on the cake as this charger that uses Power Delivery and having two USB-A ports being available so that you can charge other devices at the same time is very helpful.

Max Output:

The max output of this wall charger is 41W. So you can use the max power of the Power Delivery port, and USB-A portion of this wall charger at the same time. So there are no compromises of power. 29W + 12W = 41W

Design

Size and Weight:

Even with all its powerful charging, this wall charger is still able to be very portable and we’re surprised by just how small the charger is. It has a length of 2 inches, a width of 2.9 inches, and a thickness of 1.1 inches. The weight of this wall charger is 2.2 Ounces. So you can practically fit this wall charger into your pocket if you want to take it anywhere.

Functional Components:

Using this wall charger is exactly what it sounds like. As all you have to do is just plug it into an AC wall outlet and you’re ready to use it. With all that charging ports being on a single side. That’s said, the use of a LED Power indicator would have been very helpful to show that the wall charger is ready to use.

Build

Structure and Material:

It’s a well-built wall charger that’s made of plastic. METRANS has a picture that shows the wall charger falling on the ground and toughening up the impact. That said, we would not want to drop this wall charger onto a hard surface, as it does not hold onto any rugged properties.

Tech:

If you’re using the max power output of this wall charger then it will get a little warm. But if you’re simply using the Power Delivery port on this charger, then there’s nothing to worry about as there’s not really enough power being outputted for it to get warm.

Reliability

This METRANS wall charger does have powerful Power Delivery USB-C charging. 29W is still good charging power for Power Delivery compatible devices. At the same time, there are ones that feature one more 1W and there are some Power Delivery wall chargers that feature up to 45W and 60W of charging power.

The use of USB-A ports is also a nice touch that can be used if you want to charge other devices while you’re charging your Power Delivery device.

It’s powerful, but at the same, there are other brands that make more powerful wall chargers, too.

If you don’t own a Power Delivery compatible smartphone at all, then it’s best to stay clear of this wall charger altogether.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is actually quite good with its Power Delivery port and USB-A ports. The best part is that you can use the max power of both parts of this wall chargers at the same time.

Design:

The size of this charger is very small and its use of a retractable AC adapter makes portability with it easier.

Build:

The build is good but nothing amazing. The charger will get warm if you’re using the max output.

Reliability:

It’s a reliable charger that can be useful for charging Power Delivery compatible smartphones, while at the same time charging other devices. However, there are other, more powerful USB-C Power Delivery wall chargers with slightly more power and lots more power.

Specs of the METRANS 41W Power Delivery Wall Charger:

  • Output:

  • Size: 2 x 2.9 x 1.1 inches

Conclusion:

This METRANS USB-C Power Delivery wall charger has a good amount of power, but we think that more power with its USB-C port would be better. Even if its one more 1W of power, so that it can compete with the competition.
