Once in awhile, there’s a power bank that is capable of doing more than just being a regular power bank.

Sometimes there’s a wireless charger that is capable of being more than just a wireless charger.

Sometimes you can get the best of both worlds and get a power bank that’s capable of wireless charging. That’s what this MobilePal power bank is. It’s capable of wireless charging and normal USB charging through its two ports.

With that said, is this too good to be true? Find out if this power bank lives up to what it’s meant to be.

Power

The main attraction for this power bank is that it’s a wireless charger as well. The MobilePal power bank has two charging Outputs and a Single Coil for wireless charging.

You just lay your Qi-compatible device in the center at the top of the power bank to charge it wirelessly. The power bank wireless charger comes with a 10,000mAh power capacity, which is below the capabilities that this power bank is made for, we’ll get to the reason behind that soon.

Power Capacity

Along with the charging, the power capacity of the power bank isn’t up to standards with what it’s capable of.

This is a severe case where the capacity is lacking because if three devices are charging at once, that means they’re pulling power from the 10,000mAh capacity. Also, remember that initial capacity is not the same as Output capacity, so the power bank is more rated as an 8,000mAh since energy is lost during charging.

An initial capacity at about 15,000mAh would be great because at least the power bank would be in the 13,000mAh power capacity range.

Output Charging

Has the ability to Charge 3 Devices at Once

The charging Outputs are rated at a 5V/2.1A output for each of the two USB charging ports.

The wireless charging speed is 5V/1.0A, which is standard when it comes to wireless charging.

The most surprising thing about this power bank is not exactly the 3 options of charging, rather it’s the fact that you can use the two USB charging ports and the wireless charging capabilities all at the same time with this power bank. So far so good, right?

Well not really and here’s why.

If you’re going to be taking advantage of all three charging options all at the same time, the power bank has a hard time keeping up with the amount of current it needs to Output.

Limited Amount of Max Output

As a result, charging speed is lessened with the USB charging Output ports.

A smartphone that’s supposed to be getting a charging speed of 1.5A may only get a charge of 1.0A because the power bank can’t keep up with the power output needs for all the devices connected to the charger.

Since one smartphone isn’t getting enough power, the other smartphone that’s connected to the other USB charging port has a lower charging speed as well.

Just to clarify: Just because you can charge 3 devices at once, does not mean it will charge all of them at max speed. Charge speed is limited.

Remember, the power bank also has to account for a wireless charging device too.

Ultimately, when you’re using this power bank that has a lot of capabilities, you have to strategize on how you want to use it.

If you’re going to mostly use the USB ports then charging will stabilize back to a 2.1A potential charging output and devices will charge at their optimal levels.

So charging two devices is the best choice if you want your charging experience to be fast. It’s somewhat of a disappointment but it’s an expected disappointment for a power bank that has so much potential but the execution of its charging is lacking.

Design

Size and Weight

One of the poorest designs of the MobilePal power bank is its 3-way charging options that we mentioned before and we’d like to mention it again because it’s going to be the most prevalent problem with this power bank.

It’s designed to possibly charge 3 devices at the same time, however, it’s not designed powerful enough to offer enough energy to all the devices it’s charging at the same time.

Moving onto physical traits of the power bank. It’s quite long measuring at a length of 6 inches, so it’s half a foot. Width isn’t too bad by being 2.8 inches and a pretty good thickness at 0.6 of an inch.

The weight is what gets this power bank and many other power banks have this same problem is the weight. The power bank weighs 9.3 ounces and when coupled with the size dimensions, this power bank isn’t designed to be walked around with.

It’s best to keep this power bank in one place, especially if you’re going to be using wireless charging.

Functional Components

Speaking of wireless charging. The power bank uses only a single coil for the inductive (Wireless) charging to take place.

Using one coil means that you have to keep your smartphone smack dab in the middle of the charging plate, so the coil within your smartphone and the power bank align and can charge.

Don’t expect your phone to keep charging if it slips away from the center that it was charging from. A 3-coil wireless charger is what you’re looking for if you want to ensure that your wireless charging experience is near perfect.

Although, MobilePal realizes that wireless charging with a single coil can be frustrating, which is why they included a Non-Slip Ring Pad with the power bank charger so you can place it in the center where the charging coil is and your smartphone won’t slip away.

The USB Output ports are on the middle side ring of the power bank and in between them is the Micro-USB Input. On the side of the power bank is the power button.

On top of the charger are the LED power indicator lights that have 4 Blue LED lights for showing capacity and there’s one single Red LED light that turns on when Wireless charging is enabled.

To turn on the power bank, simply tap the power button. To turn on the power bank and turn on wireless charging you must hold down the power button until the red wireless charging light turns on.

Build

Structure and Material

The top and bottom of the power bank are plastic that has textures to make the power bank look like it’s leather and it’s also stitched at the sides.

The side rim of the power bank is steel with a slim textured line that runs throughout the middle of the strip. Overall the quality and build of the materials used are to make the power bank easier to hold. The plastic top and bottom don’t leave smudges but it’s still open to scratches.

Tech:

Three Forms of Charging can take a Small Toll

When you have three options to charge, that means the power bank will be Outputting current in three different places and forcing itself to give the maximum output.

However, as we said before, the power bank doesn’t do so well with keeping up with power needs.

With that said, charging three devices at the same time is still quite tasking and can result in lots of heat being generated.

The power bank does have safety guards to stop it from causing damage to itself or your device in times when the power bank is being heated up too much and the safety tech can potentially prevent a fire.

Although, the power bank is still being heated up and heat for a power bank and nearly all batteries is a bad thing.

As a result, the overall capacity of the power bank will be depleted quite quickly and you may notice a few months down the road that the power bank’s capacity is nothing like the first time you got it. Degradation is a concern for this power bank, so if you want a more stable experience in the long-term, then this may not be the best purchase.

Other than that, the power bank’s functional features such as the Input and Output ports, button and LED lights can function perfectly with every use. It’s just the inner components that will most likely be damaged in the long-term.

Reliability

The concept of the MobilePal 10,000mAh power bank is solid. However, the execution of the power bank still has a lot to be desired.

The power bank can’t keep up with its capabilities if you’re charging 3 devices at the same time and as a result, the charging speed suffers.

Although to make it more reliable, the power bank can just be used as a 2 option charging power bank.

By using the two USB Output ports only or using wireless charging and a single USB output port. To make this power bank reliable you have to choose which way you want to use it.

It’s most reliable if you know how to use the most energy from it. For portable needs like walking with it can be quite difficult with the size and weight of the power bank. Instead, it’s best to keep it in a single destination and rely on it that way.

Summary

Power:

Its powering capabilities promised grandeur but it falls short of that. With the amount of charging options, the power bank can’t keep up with its charging speed, and as a result charging speeds are lowered if you’re going all out.

Along with the charging, the capacity can be very underwhelming since some power is lost during charging and it can be depleted quite quickly if you’re taking full advantage of the power bank.

Design:

It’s a purpose-built portable charger that can be taken to a destination and used comfortably because it’s a bit too big and heavy to be carried around and used.

The single wireless charging coil can be frustrating if your smartphone slips away from the center but the charger comes with a ring to keep your smartphone in place.

Build:

It’s built quite well if we’re talking about the physical traits of the power bank. However, if you’re using the power bank heavily with the 3 options to charge, then it can take a toll on the power bank’s battery.

By generating heat, the long-term capacity of the power bank can get damaged severely

Reliability:

It’s a reliable power bank if you know how to use it and when to use it. A location-specific portable charger that is best left in one place. A power bank that has 3 options of charging but only two should be relied upon.

Specs of the MobilePal Wireless Power Bank Charger:

  • Power Capacity: 10,000mAh
  • Output:

USB Port: 5V/2.1A

Wireless Charging: 5V/1.0A

  • Input: 2.0A via Micro USB Input
  • LED Power Indicators: Four-LED status system      One-Red LED for Wireless Charging
  • Size: 6 x 2.8 x 0.6 inches
  • Weight: 9.3 Ounces
  • 1 Year Warranty

Conclusion:

The MobilePal power bank is capable of lots of charging ways. However, it falls short of delivering on what it promises.

The USB charging ports have great charging speeds and the wireless charging can give a standard charging speed for a wireless charger.

Using the two at a time and the power bank does good, but if you want to go all out with the power by using all 3 options of charging, then it’s not gonna work out so well as the power bank struggles to provide power throughout each output. A portable charger isn’t the best title for this power bank either.

Sure you can take it with you and hold it but it’s more of a charger that you’d take to destination and use.

A power bank with plenty of capabilities and an equal amount of holdbacks.
