With USB-C on the rise, there’s a type of fast charging tech that goes with it and that would Power Delivery (PD). Power Delivery fast charging is compatible with USB-C and it’s basically changing the way that we charge our devices. The reason for this is because USB-C is being used with devices such as smartphones and at the same time, large devices such as laptops are now using USB-C, too.

Larger devices such as laptops that use USB-C are using Power Delivery for charging, and so are some smartphones that use USB-C. What this means is that you’re able to use the same charger to charge either of those devices, as a powerful 65W Power Delivery charger, is able to charge a laptop, and also a smartphone.

That’s what we’re reviewing right here. It’s Necteck’s 65W Power Delivery wall charger. This Power Delivery charger is a lot more powerful than your average Power Delivery charger that has an output of 30W. So let’s see if this is the type of charger that you should go for if you own a Power Delivery compatible laptop.

Power

Output Charging:

When it comes to Power Delivery charging, most of the time people think that 30W of charging power is fine or that it’s enough. Well, at times 30W of Power Delivery charging, which is basically the base charging of PD power, is enough for smartphones that are Power Delivery compatible and also for some laptops such as Apple’s base MacBook that uses USB-C, as it has a max charging speed of 29W.

However, there are many Power Delivery compatible devices that go beyond the 30W charging speed, and if you’re using anything lower than the required power amount, then the device simply won’t charge.

There are laptops such as the Dell XPS 13 that requires that you use a 45W Power Delivery wall charger or higher. Another Dell laptop is the XPS 15 laptop that needs a 60W Power Delivery charger to charge. That’s what makes this DBPower wall charger so useful. As this charger basically creates an umbrella under which you have devices that this charger is capable of charging. So you don’t have to worry or be disappointed that your 30W wall charger isn’t able to charge your Power Delivery compatible device.

Just something to know is that if you do own a Power Delivery compatible laptop or tablet that requires more than 65W of charging power, this charger likely won’t be able to charge it. That said, this DBPower wall charger has double and 5W more than what an average Power Delivery wall charger is able to offer, and should be useful for charging most of your Power Delivery compatible devices.

Design

Size and Weight:

Despite its high charging power, this Nekteck wall charger still has a small size that you’re able to easily take anywhere that you want. So it has a length of 3 inches, a width of 2.8 inches and the thickness of the charger is 1.2 inches. The weight of the charger is 12.3 Ounces.

So it’s small, but a little on the heavy side, type of a charger. You can take this charger anywhere that you want, and what makes it even better to be portable with is that the charger has a retractable AC adapter.

Functional Components:

Using this charger is just like using a single port USB-A charger, that said, you’re going to need a different charging cable than using a USB-A charger.

So this charger has a retractable AC adapter that you plug into an AC outlet and you’re ready to use the charger. In order to charge USB-C compatible devices, you have to use a USB-C to USB-C charging cable with this charger. Fortunately, this Power Delivery wall charger actually comes with a 6-foot USB-C to USB-C charging cable.

If you want to charge an iPhone X or an iPhone 8 with this charger, then you would have to use a USB-C to Lightning charging cable to do so.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this charger is very well constructed, and many past users have compared the build to Apple’s original USB-C Power Delivery wall charger.

Tech:

If you’re using the max power of this charger (65W) for a long duration of time, then this charger will get warm. That said, once your device is close to fully charged or near fully charged, then it will slow it’s charging down and cool-down itself.

Reliability

In the domain of USB-C Power Delivery charging, this is one of the most useful types of Power Delivery wall chargers that you can get. The only real unreliable part about this Nekteck wall charger is that it doesn’t feature any other ports. So you can only charge a single device with this charger.

When it comes to Power Delivery charging, its 65W can be very useful if you’re charging a very powerful Power Delivery demanding laptop or a PD compatible smartphone.
