When it comes to a portable charger, we usually think about chargers that use USB charging ports that we can use to charge our smartphones and tablets. There are also power banks that are able to charge laptops as they can use Power Delivery. That said, we don’t really account for the usage of an AC outlet and that’s because an AC outlet is for powering appliances, and portable chargers might just seem too small and weak for that. Well, that’s not really the case anymore and this NOVOO AC outlet portable charger is proof of that.

This NOVOO 20,100mAh power bank does indeed use an outlet and yet it has quite a lot of power capacity, as most portable chargers that do use an AC outlet have much higher power capacities. At the same time, the charger uses two highly useful charging ports.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of this NOVOO AC outlet power bank is 20,100mAh and as we said before, power banks that use an AC outlet in the first place usually have a lot more to use than that. With that said, let’s see how much of it you’re really able to use as power is lost during charging, and powering of appliances.

3.7 x 20,100 = 74,370 / 5 = 14,874

So you’re really able to use about 15,000mAh of the capacity on this power bank and that’s actually still pretty good for charging portable devices. Devices such as smartphones that may have a 3,000mAh battery capacity are able to charge to their full power about five times with this power bank if that’s all you’re using this charger for. However, if you’re charging larger devices such as a tablet to charge with this power bank then that will likely give you about two full charges.

As for powering appliances with this NOVOO portable charger, since the output of the AC outlet is 60W, if you’re powering an appliance that requires 60W of power then that can result in at least one hour of power for that appliance for constant use. If you’re powering an appliance that requires less power, then you can have more time for powering that appliance.

Output Charging:

There are three ways to use the NOVOO portable AC outlet power bank.

There are two charging ports, with one being a USB-A port that uses Quick Charge and so if you have a Quick Charge compatible smartphone you’re able to charge it at its max charging speed. The other charging port is a USB-C port that can be used to charge USB-C compatible devices with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable. The USB-C port on this power bank has 5V/3.0A (15W) charging speed. So this USB-C port does NOT feature Power Delivery, just something to know if you think that it can charge a USB-C compatible MacBook at a fast charging speed or any other USB-C compatible devices. Of course, you can use the USB-C port to charge a few USB-C laptops on the market, such as a USB-C MacBook but it will charge it slowly.

Perhaps the best use of the USB-C port on this power bank is to use it on USB-C smartphones as a 5V/3.0A charging speed is quite fast for them.

AC Outlet:

Then there’s the main reason that you’re getting this power bank and that would be because of the AC outlet. The AC outlet on this power bank is capable of an output power of 60W. This is quite a low power output that can power small appliances such as mini fans, heaters, and something that you might likely use this for powering is, laptop chargers.

So if you have DC charging laptop or a USB-C laptop, you can connect your laptop charger into the AC outlet and then charge your laptop from there. That’s what makes this power bank so useful. The best part is that this is a 3-prong AC outlet, so you have more options on what you can plug into the AC outlet.

Input Charging:

To recharge this power bank, there’s a DC input port that you have to use an AC adapter with and the recharge rate of the power bank is 19V/1.6A. This is a very fast recharge rate and can actually recharge the power bank to its full power within just 4 hours.

Design

Size and Weight:

Despite it using an AC outlet, the size of this power bank is actually quite small, as the charger only has a length of 5.8 inches and the thickness/width of the charger is 3.1 inches. The weight of the power bank is 2.1 pounds. Of course, this charger won’t be fitting into a pocket, but you can easily just place it into a backpack, take it somewhere and then use it.

Or you can hold it and then use it once you’ve settled down.

Functional Components:

All of the functional parts of power bank are on a single side, and that would consist of:

  • Quick Charge USB-A Port
  • USB-C Port
  • AC Outlet
  • Power Button
  • DC Input Port

To start charging from either the USB-A Quick Charge port or the USB-C port, then you simply have to press the power button. If you want to turn on the power to the AC outlet then you have to hold the power button down for about 3 seconds and then a Green LED light comes on right next to the AC outlet that shows that it has been turned on and is ready for use.

Just one thing is off to the siding of the power bank and that would be 5 Blue LED power capacity indicators.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this power bank is alright, even though the entirety of the charger is made of plastic. The AC outlet has a covering that you can use while you’re not using the outlet. The power bank definitely has a rugged looking design, but at the same time, it’s not a rugged power bank and so you should still treat it with care.

Tech:

If you’re using the AC outlet for a long duration of time and it’s basically at its powering limit of 60W, then the charger does get a little warm to the touch. Other than that, there are no series signs of overheating and the power bank getting warm does make sense as there’s 60W of power being outputted from a portable charger.

Reliability

This is a highly minimal AC outlet power bank and we didn’t think that was possible, as AC outlet power banks usually have a ton of features. That said, the use of less is actually quite refreshing. The use of a Quick Charge USB-A port definitely provides more value to those that own a Quick Charge smartphone and the USB-C port does give value to those that can also make use of it. The AC outlet on this power bank is, of course, the main reason why anyone would purchase this charger, but at the same time, if you can’t find a use for the two charging methods then you’re letting the value just sit there.

Speaking of value, the AC outlet, even with its low power output does have good use if you’re looking to power a laptop charger as that’s really what it’s designed to do. Not for powering blenders.

Summary:

Power:

The use of a Quick Charge port and a USB-C port are quite welcoming. The AC outlet has a low power output, but it’s very useful for powering laptops chargers and then charging your laptop with it.

Design:

The size of this power bank is actually quite small for it to use an AC outlet and that makes it very simple to take anywhere that you want.

Build:

The power bank feels solid but it’s simply made of plastic and does not have any rugged properties.

Reliability:

The reliability of this charger is more about if you can make use of an AC outlet, while the charging ports bring the reliability factor with the charger full-circle.
