Power Delivery is one of the most important charging technologies available, and that’s because of how many devices are compatible with the tech. It’s not just smartphones that use it, many laptops use a USB-C PD port for recharging.

With the wide range of use of Power Delivery, Power Delivery chargers have become more available, and they have also started to use higher power outputs. This RAVPower 65W USB-C Power Delivery wall charger is a great example of a PD charger being usable for a smartphone and a laptop at the same time.

Power

Output Charging:

The charging power from this RAVPower charger is not lacking. There is a USB-A port and a USB-C Power Delivery port.

The USB-A port features an 18W charging speed, which means that the USB-A port uses Quick Charge for Android smartphones. The USB-C Power Delivery port can output 65W of charging power.

With that said, the max output of this wall charger is also 65W. So if you’re charging a smartphone with the USB-A port and a laptop with the USB-C port, then you won’t be able to get a full 65W charging rate to your laptop. At the same time, you may not need 65W Power Delivery charging for your laptop at there are some laptops on the market that only require 30W such as the MacBook Air.

That said if you do want to make use of the full 65W of Power Delivery charging then you would only charge from the USB-C PD port. Also, the PD port can still be used to charge smartphones, and don’t worry, the PD port will not damage smartphones because the charging speed is adjusted when it comes to charging smartphones, and it will output 18W of charging power for smartphones just as the USB-A port does.

Fast charging an LG G7

So you can fast charge two phones at the same time with this wall charger, with the PD port and the other with the USB-A port. However, only Android smartphones will charge from the USB-A port, while Android phones and iPhones can both fast charge from the USB-C PD port.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this wall charger is not going to be a problem. The RAVPower charger has a length/width of 2.2 inches, and the thickness of the charger is 1.2 inches. It can easily be placed into a pocket and when it comes to plugging it into a wall AC outlet or an AC outlet on a surge protector, it likely won’t block the surrounding outlet.

Functional Components:

The charger is as easy to use as any other wall charger, all you have to do is unfold the plug and plug it into an AC outlet, and you’re ready to use it. There is a Blue light at the front that turns on to show that the charger is ready to use.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this charger is what you can expect from RAVPower products. Sure, the charger is made of plastic, but it’s thick and well constructed and it’s not flimsy. The foldable plug comes out and goes back in smoothly.

Tech:

Even if you’re charging a laptop with the USB-C Power Delivery port or charging two devices at the same time, the charger does not overheat. Yes, a 65W power output is quite high for such a small wall charger, but at the same time, we’re at a point where wall chargers and other types of charging electronics can have better heat management during charging.

Reliability

This charger is going to be reliable for anyone that owns a USB-C Power Delivery laptop. At the same time, you probably own a smartphone, and you’re able to charge your phone with the USB-A port on this charger. With a 65W Power Delivery port, it ensures that you’re able to charge your laptop faster than a 30W PD wall charger.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is not lacking as this wall charger features two fast charging ports, and the Power Delivery port can supply 65W of charging power.

Design:

Even with its high power output, the charger can have a small form factor with its use of a GaN chip that allows the charger to output higher power while being smaller.

Build:

The charger does not feel cheap and you’re able to toss it in a bag or place it in your pocket without having to worry about it breaking.

Reliability:

This PD wall charger is reliable for both laptops and smartphones. It doesn’t matter what type of smartphone you have, because you charge Android smartphones from either the USB-A or USB-C PD port. If you have an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or newer iPhones then you’re able to charge from the USB-A port or the USB-C PD port with a Lightning to USB-C charging cable.

Conclusion:

RAVPower constantly shows innovation with its products by making sure their chargers offer high power, great portability, and a tough build. This 65W GaN Power Delivery wall charger does just that.
