RAVPower PD Pioneer 90W Dual USB-C Power Delivery Wall Charger
When it comes to third-party Power Delivery wall chargers, most of them just use a single USB-C Power Delivery port. At the same time, the PD port has a 30W charging speed. A 30W charging speed is good, but it’s not the most that you can get from PD charging, and most laptops are not able to charge at their max charging speed with 30W.
That is why we’re here to review this RAVPower dual USB-C 90W Power Delivery wall charger. The charger is not only capable of a 90W power output, but it also has two PD ports that allow you to charge two devices at once. Let’s take a closer look to see what this all means.
The first thing to know is that you can only get a 90W charging speed from this RAVPower wall charger if you’re charging device alone, as the max output of this wall charger is 90W. However, this isn’t to say that if you’re charging a single device, that the port will output 90W only.
That’s because if you’re only using a single USB-C Power Delivery port, the port is capable of an output of18W, 30W, 45W, 60W, 87W, or 90W charging speed depending on what you’re charging. A 90W possible output is great because there are many laptops on the market that can charge at that higher charging rate such as Apple’s USB-C MacBooks and other laptops such as the Dell XPS 13, XPS 15, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 and many others that can use USB-C for charging.
At the same time, if you’re charging two laptops at the same time, then each port will be able to deliver 45W, so the 90W max output is split between the two ports.
However, if you’re charging a laptop with one USB-C PD port and a smartphone with the other PD port, then the port charging the laptop will be capable of outputting 60W, while the smartphone port will be able to output 30W. That said, this isn’t to say that your laptop will charge at 60W or that your smartphone will charge at 30W. It simply means that each port can output each of its respective allocated charging power.
Most smartphones can only charge 18W with a Power Delivery port, no matter what the PD port is capable of outputting. With all that said, the most impressive part of this charger is how much power you’re able to get from it, as most PD wall chargers have a single PD port with a set charging speed, this one has two USB-C PD ports with dynamic charging.
Size and Weight:
Since this is capable of outputting so much power and with its use of two USB-C Power Delivery ports, it’s larger than most other two-port wall chargers you’ve used.
The charger has a length/width of 2.5 inches and a thickness of 1.2 inches. The weight of the charger is 6.7 ounces. So this RAVPower isn’t large in general terms, but when you compare it to wall chargers that may have a lower power output or just use a single USB-C PD port, it is larger. As a result, it may block the other AC outlet when you plug it into a wall outlet or an AC outlet on a surge protector.
That said, you are still able to place the charger into a pocket if you want to, and with the use of a foldable plug, the charger is easily portable.
There isn’t much to know about when it comes to using this charger, because you just have to plug it into an AC outlet and you’re ready to use it. Once plugged in, the charger has a Blue light at the front to show that it’s powered and ready to use.
Structure and Material:
The build quality of this RAVPower charger is solid, and it’s what you can expect from RAVPower’s products as a whole. The only part of this charger that you would have to worry about breaking is the foldable plug, but even that has a solid build and folds in and out without any signs of weakness.
Even though this wall charger can output 90W charging power, it does not overheat. This is likely because RAVPower has done some extra work to make sure that the charger does not overheat.
If you own a USB-C Power Delivery compatible laptop and smartphone, then this RAVPower 90W PD wall charger is going to be very reliable. Mostly because it will likely be able to charge your laptop at its max charging speed by either using a single USB-C Power Delivery port alone. Or even by charging a laptop and your smartphone at the same time, your laptop will still have 60W of charging power available.
The best part of this wall charger the charging speed. Just using a single PD port, you’re able to get 90W, even charging two laptops enables you to get 45W of charging from each of the ports. Or if you’re charging your laptop and a smartphone, the port charging from the laptop will be able to output 60W. There is a lot of power to go around.
Since it’s able to output so much power, and it features two PD ports, the charger is rather larger than most other wall chargers that use less power. That said, it’s still portable and easy to use.
The build is great with the charger being well-built and it does not heat even with a small form factor and a 90W max output.
This will likely be one of the most reliable PD wall chargers that you can own because of its high Power Delivery charging power and it’s the ability to dynamically change charging speed with its ports.
