Pros

  • For a Mini power bank, it can charge most smartphones twice.
  • Small enough to easily fit into your hand and it's really light.
  • Fast Output and Input charging.

Cons

  • It's way too thick to fit into a pocket.
  • Reliability isn't that good, because of great concerns of the power bank suddenly stopping to work.

It’s no secret that every single charging electronic company should have a mini power bank.

The main reason why it’s so important to have a flagship mini power bank is that a smaller charger like this is really helpful for those that are searching for a VERY portable power source.

These kinds of small power banks are chosen the most because of their really small sizes because that’s what most people looking to purchase power banks are looking for.

Of course, there’s the case of these kinds of power banks not having enough power capacity but that kind of case is becoming less true.

This is the PowerAdd Slim 2 and it’s part of the new mini power bank generation and by that we mean it joins Anker’s and Aukey’s chargers as they’re quite small and are still able to maintain quite a high power capacity.

Power Capacity:

Since this is a Mini power bank it doesn’t have that high of a power capacity. With that said, it still starts with quite a lot more power capacity than many other portable chargers that are this small.

With it, you’ll start with an initial power capacity of 5,000mAh, and during charging it does go down and that is why you’ll be receiving an Output power capacity of about 3,700mAh.

With that kind of depleted power capacity, you’ll be able to charge most smartphones 1 time and some smartphones, especially iPhones that have smaller than usual power capacities will be able to charge 2 times.

This isn’t the type of power bank that you’d charge tablets with, but if you did, then it would only matter if you were charging Mini tablets like the iPad Mini 2 or 4 series; with those tablets at least you’d get about 30% of a charge.

Ultimately, the power capacity of this power bank is enough to last you a single day or 2 days at most. It’s not to be relied on for days or weeks like higher power capacity power banks.

Output Charging:

Small power bank chargers like these only have a single Output port and that is true with this PowerAdd one.

Although what is different with these kinds of small power banks is what the charging speeds are.

In this case, this PowerAdd power bank can Output 5V/2.1A, and that’s a fast enough charging speed to charge most smartphones at their max charging speeds, like iPhones because the fastest charging rate for some smartphones is 2A and the same goes for many Android smartphones as well.

However, this power bank does not feature Quick Charge so it will not charge Quick Charge compatible smartphones at their max charging speeds.

Also, if it makes you feel any better, the charging speed is fast enough to charge tablets near their max charging speeds of 5V/2.4A; so if you were to charge a tablet with this power bank the charging rate would be close to its max charging rate.

Input Charging:

Also, a highly new but rather prevalent thing about these new small power banks is that they have faster-recharging rates. Although that’s to be expected since a power capacity as high as this should be able to charge fast enough to be used again the same day that it was used.

That’s why the Micro-USB Input max charging speed is 5V/2.0A, and when you use a 2 Amp wall charger with it, the PowerAdd Slim 2 power bank will be able to recharge to its full power capacity within 3 hours.

Size and Weight

Throughout this review, we’ve mentioned that this power bank is a Mini one and even though that is true, this kind of mini power bank is bigger than those that have small power capacities like 3,000mAh.

As a result, the size of it may be larger than what you expect.

Its length is 3.9 inches and it has a width and thickness nearly being the same with the width being 1.3 inches and the thickness being 1.2 inches.

We don’t think that fitting this power bank into your pocket is going to provide the best experience and as it’s way too thick; and that’s the main problem with power banks like these that are trying to be small and yet they fail to fit into our pockets.

However, with the weight being 4.1 ounces and the size still being really small, you’re going to be able to easily hold this power bank in a single hand.

Functional Components

Starting with its actual shaping, the power bank’s form factor is hexagonal and that stops it from rolling off of flat surfaces.

You can find most of the functional parts of the power bank on the side of it, and that’s where the Output and Input port are, as well as 4 LED Power capacity indicators. This mostly leaves the power button as just a way to check the power capacity that’s left.

Build

Structure and Material

The entirety of the PowerAdd Slim 2 external battery is made of plastic and that doesn’t affect its build quality.

This is because much like other small power banks, this one has all of its components jammed into a small space and this makes the build quality strong.

It’s not like we’re saying that dropping the power bank wouldn’t have it take damage, but what we are saying is that it’s built to be used every day without worrying that it’ll come apart.

Tech

On the tech side, there’s nothing special that this power bank has. Sure, it has the necessary safety tech that should come with any power bank like Surge and Short-Circuit protection. However, it doesn’t use any special batteries like Panasonic or LG ones.

Reliability

It’s a reliable enough power bank, as long as you’re getting a good quality unit at least.

We say this because this PowerAdd power bank has been known to fail to work either 1 month in or after a year of using it.

The product reliability with this power bank is quite a great concern as something like this is meant to have a long life and it’s supposed to work in times that you don’t have a stable source of power.

If this charger were to stop working when your smartphone is at 10%, then that would be a really big problem.

With that said, if the power bank charger does work as it’s supposed to, then it’ll be able to give a pretty good charging experience, so good that it can very well be on the same level as Anker’s PowerCore 5000.

Summary

Power:

Power capacity suffers quite a bit during charging with a lower Output power capacity, luckily, though, you’ll still be able to charge most smartphones to their full power capacities.

Some can even charge twice. The charging speeds for both Output and Input are really good as they’re both 5V/2.0A

Design:

Even though this is known as a small power bank, it’s not exactly as slim as the name implies.

Holding it in your hand will pose no problems but placing it into your pocket will. Its form factor prevents it from rolling off of smooth surfaces.

Build:

The structure and material build quality are quite good as it’s all small and compartmentalized. There’s nothing special about the tech build.

Reliability:

Reliability can be shoddy as there have been many reports of this power bank not working after both short and long periods. If it works like it’s supposed to, then it’s good.

Conclusion

This PowerAdd Slim 2 can bring yet another addition to power banks that use a higher power capacity while still being able to maintain a relatively small size.

With that said, power banks like these need to become even smaller if they truly want to impress customers because at this point it’s a little too obvious that this is indeed a 5,000mAh power bank.
