There are many types of power banks on the market, ones with low, high and medium power capacities and they all have their place depending on what you want. However, it can be more than just the power capacity of a power bank that makes it holds more or less value and that’s why we’re reviewing this RAVPower 10,000mAh portable charger that uses a built-in AC adapter to recharge, and it can also act as a USB wall charger once you do plug it into an AC outlet. So let’s take a closer look at what it has to offer.

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of this portable charger isn’t anything special but at the same time, it’s exactly the right amount that they could add a built-in AC adapter to this power bank in the first place. Also, the 10,000mAh power capacity is a good amount to actually make the portable charger useful for charging, that said, let’s first figure out much of the capacity you can actually use.

3.7 x 10,000 = 37,000 / 5 = 7,400

The output power capacity that you’re actually able to use is about 7,000mAh, this is still a good amount of power capacity that you can use to charge most smartphones to their full power about times. That’s really what this power bank is meant for when it comes to charging. However, if you want to charge other, larger devices, such as a tablet then it’s going to take the entirety of the power capacity from this charger.

Output Charging:

When it comes to actually use this power bank to charge your devices, there are two USB-A ports that are available to you. Each of the two ports on this power bank has a 5V/2.4A charging speed and the max output of this power bank is 3.4A. So if you’re using the max output of the power bank and using both of the ports at the same time, then each of the ports is able to output a charging speed of 5V/1.7A.

This is pretty good as it’s not a 1 Amp charging speed, that’s considered to be very slow charging for most smartphones on the market. This power bank does not use Quick Charge and we think that the usage of a Quick Charge port would have made this power bank more value as it already has a built-in AC adapter.

Input Charging:

Speaking of a built-in adapter, there are two ways to recharge this power bank. There’s the more regular method which is to use the Micro-USB input port to recharge this RAVPower power bank. The one other way to recharge this power bank is to use the built-in AC adapter and plug the charger into an AC outlet. The Micro-USB input recharging is faster as it has a 5V/2.0A recharge rate, while the AC Plug has a 5V/1.0A recharge speed.

At the same time, once the power bank is plugged into a built-in AC adapter you’re still able to use the power bank and it acts as a USB wall charger. Overall, the AC outlet is the method of recharging that you’re likely going to use the most as the Micro-USB input recharging method requires you to use a USB wall charger and a charging cable.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this power bank is quite small, we found that you’ll have no problems taking it anywhere that you want to. That’s because this charger has a length of 5.4 inches, a width of 2.5 inches, and a thickness of 1.1 inches. The weight of the charger is 10.2 Ounces. So you can easily just hold the power bank while charging a smartphone, or just place it into a pocket for when you’re not using it. The built-in AC adapter is retractable into the power bank so it won’t get in the way.

Functional Components:

The parts of this power bank are very close together and it makes it very easy to use the power bank. As the two USB-A ports and the Micro-USB input are on the same side. The built-in AC adapter is right next to the Micro-USB input port and in order to use it all you have to do is just pull it out and once your done recharging the power bank you can retract the AC adapter.

On top of the power bank is where there are four Blue LED power capacity indicators, and the power button is on the side. You do have to press the power button to begin charging with this power bank.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this power bank is on par with other RAVPower products and that’s a good thing with the structure of the power bank holding together well, even though it’s made of plastic. Also, we were worried that the built-in AC adapter on this charger would be flimsy and weak, but that’s not the case and we found there to be very little wiggle with it. That’s a very good thing and we’re glad that they put a good focus on the focal point of this charger.

Tech:

On the tech side, this power bank can get a little warm if you’re recharging using the built-in AC adapter, and charge your devices at the same time, as the power bank is recharging and charging your devices at once. This is called Pass-Through charging.

Reliability

It’s a very reliable power bank to use if you just want a standard charging power to charge your smartphone or two USB chargeable devices at once. The most reliable part of this power bank is its use of a built-in AC adapter and it basically erases the need to use the Micro-USB input port. That said, this power bank does not feature Quick Charge, so it cannot fast charge Quick Charge compatible smartphones.

Summary:

Power:

The recharging part of this power bank through the AC adapter is the main highlight with this power bank as you don’t have to use a USB wall charger or a charging cable as you would have to with many other power banks on the market.

Design:

The charger is very to use with its retractable AC adapter and it’s small enough that you can take it anywhere that you want.

Build:

The build quality of this power bank is quite good and we’re surprised by the rigidity of the built-in AC adapter.

Reliability:

This is quite a reliable portable charger and also a USB wall charger because of its built-in AC adapter.
