Power banks that double as car jump starters are generally better than normal power banks. Not only because they can jump-start your car but also because their build quality and charging power is better.

They’re built really well to keep it in your vehicle for the long-term and surprisingly the charging speeds for the charging ports are quite fast.

In this case, though, this RAVPower 18,000mAh Element Car Jump Starter goes a step further with its capabilities because it can even power appliances with this DC Output port and that can be very useful for those times when you’re either going camping or on the road during a road trip.

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of the RAVPower car jumper power bank starts at 18,000mAh.

When you include usage of Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries that are able to withstand higher temperature quite well during charging (Although these are basically Lithium Polymer batteries) and the inefficiencies of energy being transferred through the charging cable.

Then the conversion rate of the RAVPower bank will be an average of 70% and that’s going to result in an Output power capacity fo 12,500mAh.

Using the RAVPower Element Charger on smartphones

It’s very useful to use this power bank when you’re either out on the open road or just using it in a normal manner because it’s going to be able to provide about 6-7 full charges for an iPhone 6s and the same can be said about most Android smartphones as well.

Although you’ll be getting about 4 full charges for smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7.

Using the RAVPower Element Charger on Mini Tablets

The Output power capacity is very useful for charging tablets and that’s especially true if you’re charging Mini tablets like the iPad Mini 2 and Mini 4. The iPad Mini 4 has a power capacity of 5,124mAh and the iPad Mini 2 has a 6,470mAh power capacity and as a result, you’ll fair about 2 full charges for them.

However, what we find awesome is that you can just charge one to its full power and still have 6,000mAh of usable power left to use.

Using the RAVPower Element Charger on Full-Sized Tablets

On the higher end of charging tablets, like Full-sized ones like the iPad 12-Inch version, that’s going to take all of the power capacity from the RAVPower power bank to charge, because the iPad 12-Inch tablet has a power capacity 10,307mAh. Even then though, you’ll end up with an 80% charge on the iPad, which isn’t that bad at all.

Jump-Starting cars with the Power Capacity:

The power bank can jump start 3L Diesel Engines and 6L Gas Engines about 20 times. Just keep in mind that you need to have the power bank powered to its full capacity to get 20 full jump starts. Having the power bank have less than its full power will ultimately result in fewer jump starts.

Output Charging:

There are 2 USB Output charging ports on the power bank and they both offer different charging speeds.

5V/2.1A Charging Port:

Use this charging port at all times when you’re just charging a single device because most devices charge at 2 Amps or higher. That’s true for smartphones and tablets and this charging port is going to be very useful charging tablets at/near their max speed.

5V/1.5A Charging Port:

The charging speed of 1.5A isn’t actually that bad but it’s still slower than the other charging port and this charging port should only be used when you’re charging 2 devices at once.

DC Output:

The power bank has a cigarette lighter port that you can use a car charger with and that charger has a DC cable, so you can power appliances that are powered up to 120 Watts of power. This is very useful for those times when you have a mini fridge on the road, or maybe even a small vacuum in your car.

The use of having this power bank being able to charge your smartphones/tablets devices, power appliances, and Jump Start your car are all the things that make it an awesome power source to have.

Another way to look at the DC Output is that it has an Output power of 12V/10A.

Jump-Starting Cars

The power bank has a Peak Current of 600A and that’s enough Current to jump start cars that have V6 and even V8 engines.

Input Charging:

It uses a DC Input to recharge itself and you can use either the Home power adapter or the Car charger that the power bank comes with and it recharges at a 15V/1.0A charging speed. As a result, the 18,000mAh power bank will be able to recharge to its full power capacity within 5 hours. Not a bad recharge time for such a high power capacity.

Size and Weight:

Since this is a higher power capacity power bank and has 3 ways to use it, that also means that it’s a large and heavy portable charger. Call it equivalent exchange if you will.

It has a length of 7.3 inches, a width of 5.1 inches and a thickness of 1.2 inches. It weighs 2 pounds. You’re never going to actually carry the power bank in your hand, but only when you’re actually taking it out to use it.

So it’s best to keep the charger in your car or in your backpack when you’re camping/hiking in the outdoors (Although keeping it in a backpack would still make you feel the heavyweight).

Functional Components:

Even with all of its features of powering devices, the power bank is quite easy to use.

Where things are on the power bank

This is because most of the charging components are on a single side. On the back side of the power bank is where the DC Output is and it’s covered by a flap that’s labeled 12V/10A, Then there’s a long flap that covers the DC Input and 2 USB charging ports. lastly, there are the Car Jumper sockets that are also covered by a flap.

On the top of the power bank is where there’s the power button and 4 LED power capacity indicators. On the side is where there’s a flashlight that is actually very bright and can practically be compared to regular flashlight brightness. The flashlight is turned on by holding the power button down for about 3 seconds and once it’s on you can press the power button to cycle from its 3 versions of either Regular, SOS, and Flash.

How to use the JumpStart Feature

To Jump-start a car, simply connect the jumper cables that the power bank comes with into the jumper sockets and connect the Positive and Negative cables onto your car battery, then press the power button and wait for the Red light on the jumper cable device to turn off and for the Green light to come on, and once that happens you can turn on your car.

The main thing that you’ll notice is that the power bank has a handle on it and that makes it very useful for holding the charger, and using the flashlight because you’re basically holding it like a torch then. The handle is retractable too which makes storing the power bank very easy.

Build

Structure and Material:

The power bank is made of plastic but it’s very durable with most of its components being overlapped, which makes having the power bank in your car a completely possible thing to do.

Tech:

On the inside, the power banks have safety tech features such as Temperature control, Short-Circuit and Surge protection to keep you and your devices safe during charging or when you’re jump-starting your car.

The use of Lithium-Ion Batteries

In addition, the power bank uses Lithium-Ion batteries that are perfect for this power bank because when you jump start cars, that’s demanding a lot of power from the batteries which result in a lot of heat.

The Lithium-Ion batteries manage the heat better and that means there’s much less of chance of the batteries expanding and damaging the power bank.

Also, the Lithium-Ion batteries are able to make the power bank last up to 2,000 recharges which is basically 4X more than the average lasting time.

Reliability

This is one of the best power banks to own on the market. The only unreliable aspects that we can truly identify is that it’s large and heavy, which can make it difficult to take places, but it’s mostly meant a stay in your car.

With that said, all the other features are highly reliable because the power bank has 3 powering options that can be used either in an emergency for jump-starting your car, or a more regular use of charging devices like your smartphones or tablet. You can even power small appliances.

All of this can be done with a device that you can carry in your hand, and it’s vital to have reliable power in your car when you’re on long rides.

Summary:

Power:

The power capacity does go through an average conversion rate, but with the power capacity that’s actually usable, it can actually charge smartphones and tablets multiple times.

When the power bank is fully recharged, then it can jump-start a car 20 times, and it has a DC Output that can power appliances like Mini Fridges.

Design:

It’s large and heavy, but that’s to be expected when you have a device this large.

Even though it has lots of power methods. the power bank is still easy to use with its 4 main functions.

Build:

It has a strong and sturdy build that’s perfect for storing in your car. On the inside, RAVPower took a very smart approach because they’re using batteries that are able to better withstand the power it takes to jump-start a car’s battery.

Reliability:

With the powering capabilities that this power bank has, we think it’s vital for people to own something like this RAVPower portable charger because all the capabilities that it holds can be relied upon for anybody.
