The charging tech that we use to charge our portable devices matter quite a lot, and it’s something that not many people know a lot about. Most of the time we’re just content with any USB-A port that can charge our devices. That said, it’s not the best idea to just stop right there because there are two main charging technologies that are dominating the market.

They’re called Quick Charge and Power Delivery. Lots of Android smartphones these days now use Quick Charge, but as useful as Quick Charge is, it can’t exactly be used for all portable devices as they would have to be using a Snapdragon processor. So the more universal and growing option of fast charging is known as Power Delivery which is used with USB-C.

USB-C is the new standard of connectivity for devices and for charging, lots of Android smartphones are now using it, and so are larger devices such as tablets and laptops. Power Delivery is basically fast charging tech that works with USB-C specifically, so with USB-C being more common, Power Delivery will be more widespread.

In this case, we’re focusing on Power Delivery because it’s being used with portable chargers, such as this RAVPower one. This RAVPower 26800 Power Delivery charger is one of the most useful power banks that use Power Delivery. Let’s take a closer look though, to see if what it offers is really valuable.

Power

Power Capacity:

The first thing that you’re going to notice with the specs for this power bank is that it has a 26,800mAh power capacity. This amount of very high power capacity for portable chargers that use Power Delivery is actually quite normal. That’s because you’re likely going to be using this charger to charge larger devices such as tablets and laptops. Not just smartphones.

Another reason that there’s a lot of power being used is that using Power Delivery makes the conversion of power from the power bank and to your device less efficient. So let’s first figure out the average amount of Output power capacity that you’ll receive.

3.7 x 26,800 = 99,160 / 5 = 19,832

Most of the time you’re actually going to be able to use about 20,000mAh of the capacity that this charger has. So the main reason that Power Delivery power banks use very high power capacities is that they provide a cushion so that when power is converted, you’re able to use a lot of power anyways.

So what can the output power capacity offer? Quite a lot.

A lot of Power even after Conversion

With its power capacity, you’re able to charge most smartphones such as ones with 3,000mAh battery capacities to their full power about 7 times. That said, solely charging your smartphone isn’t just what this power bank is about, as charging tablets can result in about 4 full charges.

Then if you’re charging even larger devices such as laptops that use USB-C, like the MacBook or Chromebooks, then you can expect about 3 full charges. With all that said, these full charge estimates are based on charging Power Delivery compatible devices alone with this power bank. Charging a device alone is, not the only option that you have with this power bank as there are actually three output charging ports.

Output Charging:

Yes, there is three Output charging ports with this power bank.

There are the two USB-A ports and the single USB-C port which features the Power Delivery.

USB-C Port

First, let’s go over the reason that you’re getting this power bank and that would be because of the USB-C port. It features Power Delivery and to be specific the USB-C port is able to output 30W of charging power. 30W is basically double than the standard charging that most USB-C ports are able to output, so it can charge most USB-C Power Delivery compatible devices at their max charging speeds, such as smartphones and tablets.

Smartphones such as the Google Pixel 2, and Essential phone are compatible with Power Delivery, so this port can charge them at their max charging speed. One smartphone that not many people know that is compatible with Power Delivery is the iPhone X and the iPhone 8. The iPhone may not use USB-C, but you can just use a USB-C to Lightning charging cable to charge the iPhone X or the iPhone 8 at their max charging speed.

30W of charging power when it comes to charging laptops such as the MacBook or Chromebook is still quite good but at the same time, the 30W may no longer be a max charging speed. Laptops that are Power Delivery compatible will charge quite quickly, but there are certain MacBook models that are able to charge faster with 45W or even 60W of charging power.

That said, with this being a Power Delivery portable charger, 30W is quite good and is the standard with power banks that do feature the charging tech.

USB-A Ports

There are two USB-A ports on his power bank and each of them has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and the max output of the USB-A port section of this charger is 3.4A. That’s to make sure that you can still use the full Power Delivery capabilities of this charger while still charging another two devices at once.

This power bank does not feature Quick Charge. If you do want a power bank that does feature Quick Charge along with Power Delivery, then we recommend Jackery’s Titan X portable charger which features Power Delivery and Quick Charge.

Input Charging:

Recharging his power bank can be done through one of two input ports. There is a Micro-USB and USB-C input port. You’re definitely going to want to use the USB-C input port on this power bank. As the USB-C input uses Power Delivery, that said, you’re going to need a USB-C Power Delivery wall charger in order to recharge this power bank at 30W and a USB-C to USB-C charging cable.

Using the Micro-USB input for recharging this power bank will result in a 5V/2.0A recharge rate.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this power bank is quite large and that’s really what you can expect with most power banks that have this much power capacity and use Power Delivery. It has a length of 6.8 inches, a width of 3.1 inches, and a thickness of 0.8 inches. The weight of this charger is 13.3 Ounces.

Not too large, and you’re able to take it anywhere with you. That said, it’s definitely the type of power bank that you’re going to set down and use, rather than walking and charging your smartphone with.

Functional Components:

Using this power bank is very easy.

All the charging ports are on a single thin side, with the Output and Input ports being together. Then at the top of the charger is where you have the Power Button and four Blue LED Power Capacity indicators. You do have to press the power button to begin charging with this power bank.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this power bank is very good and that’s something that you can expect from RAVPower. As the ports feel great to use, and the charger does have a great build to it that won’t break apart.

Tech:

Since this power bank does use Power Delivery, it can get warm while you’re using the Power Delivery charging. However, it really only gets warm near the ports area of this charger, as all other areas of this power bank stay quite cool.

Reliability

The reliability of this RAVpower Power Delivery portable charger really depends on whether or not you’re going to be using the Power Delivery charging that it has.

If you’re not using Power Delivery, then this charger will not be very reliable as the price point is mainly because of its Power Delivery capabilities.

If you are in the market for a Power Delivery portable charger, this is a good choice because of its charging power and its power capacity.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is quite good with its USB-C Power Delivery port, both for output and input charging.

Design:

It’s quite a large power bank and one that you’re going to set down most of the time when you’re using it.

Build:

When you’re using the Power Delivery, the charger does get warm, but mostly around where the charging ports are, because Power Delivery charging is fast.

Reliability:

This is a great option for anyone that owns a Power Delivery compatible device and want to charge it while they’re on the move, and not having to rely on a wall charger.
