Most of us use USB wall chargers to charge out portable devices, as that’s what most of our smartphones, tablets and now even laptops are starting to use wall chargers too. Wall chargers are also very easy to use as you just have to simply plug them into an AC Outlet, connect your charging cable and charge your devices. That said if there’s one issue with using the wall charger that comes with a new device that you purchase it would be that it uses just a single port. So the number of devices that you can charge at any one time are very limited.

Even though each brand recommends that you use the same charger that it comes with, that’s simply not true and you don’t have to.

So getting a wall charger from another brand that has more than just one port is a great idea. There’s something further than just wall chargers though and that would be USB charging stations. Also known as Desktop chargers. These are basically just like wall chargers, but they use many more ports than a wall charger would use.

In this review, we’re going over this RAVPower 6-port charging station with a USB-C port. So it not only has a lot of USB-A ports, this charger also has a USB-C charging port that encompasses the future of charging. So let’s see if all this massive charging power is worth getting or if you should just stick to regular walls chargers.

Power

Output Charging:

There are a total of six charging ports with this charger. With there being 5 USB-A ports and there’s a single USB-C port.

USB-A Port

A USB-A port is basically a universal charging method when it comes to USB rechargeable devices, and that’s why there are so many with lots of charging stations on the market. As lots of people own a USB-A to Micro-USB charging cable or any other variation of a USB-A charging cable too.

Each of the five USB-A ports on this charger has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A, and that’s basically the standard at this point. As a 2.4A charging speed can charge most Non-Compatible Quick Charge smartphones and tablets at their max charging speed. Or at least near their max charging speed. Another thing to know is that this charger does not feature Quick Charge, but RAVPower does have a charging station with Quick Charge if you do own a Quick Charge smartphone.

USB-C Port:

There’s a single USB-C port on this charger. USB-C is basically the new standard of charging and connection that many new portable devices are starting to use. All the new Android smartphones are now using USB-C, many tablets are now using USB-C. Laptops such as Apple’s MacBook are now using USB-C, just to give you a perspective of how widespread this new standard of charging is becoming.

The USB-C port on this charger has a charging speed of 5V/3.0A (15W). Something to know about the USB-C port is that it does not use Power Delivery. Power Deliver is basically fast charging that’s used with some USB-C chargers, and quite a few devices on the market are compatible with Power Delivery such as the Google Pixel 2 and laptops like the MacBook can use Power Delivery to charge a lot faster.

You can use a USB-C to USB-C charging cable to charge USB-C Power Delivery compatible devices with this port, but they won’t charge at their max charging speed. Another thing to know about USB-C is that you can use a USB-C to Lightning charging cable to charge the iPhone X or iPhone 8 at faster speeds. The iPhone X and iPhone 8 are Power Delivery compatible, so they won’t charge at their max charging speed with this USB-C port, but they are able to charge faster.

Overall, USB-C compatible devices will be able to charge quite quickly with this USB-C port, but it does not feature Power Delivery, in case you’re looking for a Power Delivery charging station to purchase.

Max Output:

The max output of this charge is 60W or 12A. This is the standard when it comes to the most 6-Port charging stations and it’s a good one too. That’s because even if you’re charging six devices at once with this charger, with the max output of 12A being reached; Each of the ports is able to output 5V/2.0A.

Slower charging than if you weren’t using the max output but at the same time, 2 Amps is a whole lot better than 1 Amp.

Design

Size and Weight:

Six charging ports is a lot of ports. Hearing that there’s that many ports on a charger might make you think that the charger is actually large and heavy. That’s not the case here, as this charger has a length of 3.9 inches, a width of 2.7 inches, and a thickness of 1.1 inches. So it’s not very large at all and placing this on the table for many people to connect their charging cable and charge their devices is very easy to do. The charger weights 7.5 Ounces. So it does have some weight, but not too heavy and neither it is too large that it’ll be difficult to take anywhere that you want.

Functional Components:

Even with its use of many ports, using a charging station is just as easy as using a wall charger expect in this case, there’s a power cord used to power the charging station rather than AC adapter that’s built-in.

The power cord goes into the back of this RAVPower charging station. Once you’ve plugged the charging station in, there’s a Green light that turns on to indicate that the charger is powered and ready to use. All the charging ports are on a single side, and the USB-C port is spaced a little further away from the USB-A ports at the bottom of the charger.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this RAVPower 6-port charging station is very good, and something that you can expect from most of RAVPower’s products. As there are very few parts that separated so it has a near uni-body structure.

Tech:

If you’re going to use the max output of power with this charger station, the charger will get warm. If you’re using about 3-4 ports, then the charger stays cool. With the charger getting warm, you really shouldn’t be worried, though because even if you’re using it in a hot climate, the charger automatically slows down charging to cool itself down.

Reliability

This is a very reliable charger with its use fo six ports. Of course, the reason that you’re going to want to purchase specifically this charger rather than a regular 6-port all USB-A port charger is that this one has a USB-C port. So if you have a USB-C compatible device that you want to use a USB-C to USB-C charging cable with and charge faster with it, then this RAVPower 6-port charging station is definitely for you.

If you can’t find a use for the USB-C port on his charger then it’s best to skip this charger and simply get a regular 6-port USB-A charging station.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is basically the best part of this charge RAVPower charging station as each of the USB-A ports has a 2.4A output. There’s a single USB-C port that has a 3A output, but it does not use Power Delivery. The max output is very high, so even if you use the max output, the charging speed doesn’t slow down too much.

Design:

It’s actually a small charger despite its many ports.

Build:

The charger does get warm if you’re using the max output of this charger, but it does slow-down charging when that happens.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable charger that has many ports to charge lots of devices at once. Definitely meant for those that are going to use the USB-C port, so if you aren’t then it’s best to purchase a regular USB-A charging station.

Specs of the RAVPower 6-Port USB-C Charging Station:
