  • Comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable

Power Delivery is the future, and at this point, we’re basically in the future as there so many portable devices that are compatible to charge with a USB-C port. As a result, it’s more important than ever that you own a PD charger that can charge your larger device and smaller devices that use USB-C to charge.

This RAVPower PC146 120W Power Delivery desktop charger is an all-around PD charger that you’re going to want to own if you currently have many USB-C devices and plan to own more that charge via USB-C in the future. That’s because this RAVPower charger is futureproofed due to its high power output and options for charging.

Power

Output Charging:

There are four ports on this RAVPower desktop charger, and there is a lot of power to use even if you’re charging multiple devices simultaneously.

The charger has two USB-C Power Delivery ports and two USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 ports. The two USB-C PD ports can output 100W, while the Quick Charge ports output 18W (Quick Charge’s regular output).

However, the max output of the charger is 120W. Since this RAVPower desktop charger has dynamic charging, charging power is allocated differently depending on how many devices you’re charging. If you’re charging two laptops simultaneously via the two USB-C PD ports, but one laptop requires more charging power, then one of the USB-C ports will get more charging power.

In our tests, this RAVPower PC146 desktop charger worked phenomenally. We charged a Lenovo Flex 5 laptop and a Microsoft Surface Go 2 via the two USB-C PD ports; we also charged an LG G7 via one of the USB-A QC ports. The LG G7 is Quick Charge 3.0 compatible so it could fast charge with the USB-A port.

The Lenovo Flex 5 laptop was able to charge at about 25W to 30W, and that’s because of the laptop’s fastest charging speed. The Flex 5 was charging at its max speed even while the Surface Go was charging. With its 120W max output and very powerful 100W USB-C ports, this RAVpower desktop charger is one of the best to get if you want to charge multiple devices at the same time, no matter if it’s a larger or smaller device.

Design

Size and Weight:

This is a desktop charger and not a wall charger; it does not have a built-in AC adapter, and instead, the charger has a power cord. However, the charger itself has a block shape with a length of 3.3 inches and a thickness of 1.8 inches. So it’s not very large, thanks to GaN tech that is more commonly used with wall chargers but was also used here to make the charger small and still output lots of power.

Even though you have to use a power cord, it can be useful because you have more freedom to place the charger and have your device charging.

Functional Components:

The charger comes with a power adapter and a USB-C to USB-C cable. You plug the power cord into the back of the desktop charger and plug the power cord into an AC outlet, and you’re ready to use the charger.

Once the charger is powered, it has a very dim LED power light at the top. The ports can be found at the front of the charger.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this charger desktop charger is great and one of the best-built products that we’ve used from RAVPower.

Tech:

The charger does get warm during charging if you’re using higher wattage for charging laptops or if you’re charging multiple devices.

Reliability

If you have multiple USB-C devices and still charge a few devices via USB-A ports, then this RAVPower 120W desktop charger is for you. Especially if one of your USB-C chargeable devices is a laptop because this charger has such a PD output that most regular wall chargers don’t have; additionally, you have a total of four ports. Most 100W wall chargers only have two ports at the most.

You also get a little more wiggle room on where you want the charger to be, thanks to it using a power cord. The charger includes a USB-C to USB-C cable and the power cord in the box, so you can start using it immediately.

Summary:

Power:

There is no shortage of charging power with this RAVPower desktop charger as it has 120W max output, two USB-C Power Delivery ports capable of outputting 100W, and two USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 ports.

Design:

The charger has a block shape and is very small. It won’t take up much space if you’re placing it on your desk. It comes with everything you need to use the charger, including a USB-C to USB-C cable and a power cord.

Build:

The charger does get warm during charging, but that can be said about nearly all chargers on the market. Since this has such a high power output, it comes as no surprise.

Reliability:

This is easily one of the best chargers that you can own if you many USB-C devices and plan to own more in the future, which is likely because nearly every portable device is starting to use a USB-C port.
