If you value charging your devices basically anywhere, then it’s best to look into smarter charging solutions and in this case, we mean Surge Protectors that use USB charging ports. They basically erase the need of having to use a USB wall charger and they almost always make use of fast charging.

This is the RAVPower Surge Protector that uses 8 Outlets and 3 USB charging ports.

Power

Output Charging:

The usual parts of the Surge protector are that it uses 8 3-prong outlets and with that, you’re able to use 1,875 Watts of power. So it’s just your standard Surge protector that’s able to provide power to your appliances. Another way to look at the power is that it has an Output of 125V/15A.

USB Charging Ports:

Each of the charging ports uses RAVPower’s smart charging and so each of them is able to Output 5V/2.4A charging speeds. 2.4 Amps is a Max standard charging and that’s going to result in a device that isn’t compatible with Quick Charge to charge at their max charging speeds (Since none of the charging ports use Quick Charge tech).

The Max Output of the USB charging ports is a total of 4.1A and that’s quite low. You’ll be able to charge one tablet at its max charging speed but not 2 tablets. However, charging 3 smartphones at the same time should give a pretty good charging experience.

How it’s important to know that you’ll only be able to receive a 2.4A charging speed for only a single device at any one time.

If you’re charging 3 devices at the same time, and the Max output of the USB charging ports is at its max, then each of the charging ports is going to be outputting 5V/1.4A.

Design

Size and Weight:

It has a length of 10.6 inches, a width of 4.5 inches and a thickness of 1 inch. It weighs 1 pound.

So it’s the size that you’d expect a Surge protector to be although it just has a wider width so just make sure that you have enough space for that.

Functional Components:

We really like the design of the RAVPower surge protector because all the AC Outlet sockets are spaced far from each other, far enough that even when you use power bricks the AC Outlets won’t be covered. There’s a switch to turn it ON and OFF so you don’t have to unplug the Surge protector.

There are keyhole slots on the back the Surge Protector so you can mount the PowerStrip onto a wall or a table. Lastly, since this is a Surge Protector, it has a Blue Grounded light that turns on once the Surge protector is in a stable place.

Build

Structure and Material:

It’s a very well made Powerstrip because it’s made of ABS/PC that not only make it resistant to fire but also makes it withstand falls, hits, slide, and bumps.

Tech:

On the tech side, there are safety protections to make sure that the Surge protector doesn’t exceed its powering capabilities. On the AC Outlets side it’s 15A and on the USB side it’s a max Output of 5A. When either of those powering capabilities is over, then the power strip automatically shuts itself off.

Reliability

We think you’re going to find this RAVPowr surge protector very useful to use if you think that you can rely on only 3 USB charging ports.

Some people actually want more USB charging ports to use when it comes to charging multiple devices at once and if you want more USB charging ports with a Surge protector then we recommend looking into the Anker’s Surge protector or Aukey’s Surge protector that has 6 USB charging ports with one of them using Quick Charge 3.0 ports.

Summary:

Power:

The powering side on both the AC Outlet and USB side are both really good and provide enough power for either powering your appliances and charging your devices.

Design:

It’s wider than most PowerStrips. There’s a switch to turn it On and OFF and it has a Blue LED light that turns on once the Surge protector is grounded.

Build:

If the Surge protector is outputting too much power than it can handle, then it automatically turns off to prevent any damage.

Reliability:

The highly reliable parts of this Surge protector is that it has 3 USB charging ports but to some that may not be enough and they might have to buy a wall charger anyways.

We think that if you won’t have a need of purchasing a wall charger after purchasing this Surge protector then it’s served its purpose of being reliable.
