Fast charging is the name of the game when it comes to the portable devices that we use each day. Sure, many portable devices, especially smartphones use larger batteries than they ever have, but that larger battery is depleted rather quickly because of how powerful smartphones are. Being on the move, and being close to a dead battery is never a good feeling and that’s why fast charging portable chargers are a must.
In this review, we’re taking a look at this Silicon Power QP65 Power Delivery and Quick Charge slim power bank. It has all the necessities that you need to fast charge most smartphones and get them to full power no matter where you are.
Power
Power Capacity:
The 10,000mAh power capacity of this Silicon Power portable charger is enough for charging most smartphones to full power about two times. Just to give you some perspective for recent smartphones that have been released, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 3,687mAh battery capacity. While on the larger battery size, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a 4,500mAh battery.
In this case, with the two above smartphones, you’ll likely get a single full charge and have some left over power capacity to use, too. If you want to be able to get two full charges for a smartphone, then the phone should have a 3,000mAh battery capacity. That said, getting less full charges for a smartphone that has a larger battery is not bad at all.
That’s because if you charge Note 20 Ultra to full power with this Silicon Power portable charger, then you’re looking at a whole other day of use for the Note. The same thing can be said about the iPhone 12.
Tablets on the other hand will require the entire power capacity to be able to charge to full power. Even then, that may not be enough as tablets have very large batteries.
Output Charging:
The two ports on this power bank feature fast charging. The USB-C port has an 18W Power Delivery charging speed. The USB-A port features Quick Charge 3.0.
The USB-C Power Delivery port is more universal when it comes to fast charging, as there are quite a lot of USB-C chargeable devices now. The iPhone is now Power Delivery compatible, so you can fast charge the iPhone 12 with the USB-C port on this power bank. That said, you’ll need a USB-C to Lightning cable to do so.
For basically all other devices, you’ll need to use a USB-C to USB-C cable to fast charge from the PD port. With an 18W PD charging speed, you are also able to fast charge most Android smartphones and USB-C tablets.
However, the USB-C PD port on this power bank cannot charge USB-C chargeable laptops. Or at least it cannot charge most of them. That’s because most laptops require that you use a 30W Power Delivery charger, and 18W is too low.
Input Charging:
There are also two ports that you can use to recharge this power bank. Both of them are fast-charging compatible, too. With the same USB-C port being able to recharge the power bank at Power Delivery speeds, and the Micro-USB port is able to recharge at Quick Charge speeds.
That said, you will either need a PD wall charger or a Quick Charge wall charger to fast recharge this power bank.
Design
Size and Weight:
The size of this QP65 power bank is easily the next best part of this power bank. The charger has a length of 5.6 inches, a width of 2.7 inches, and a thickness of 0.4 inches. The weight of the charger is 7 ounces.
It’s about the same size as a smartphone, or even smaller than some of the larger ones on the market. With its very slim form factor, you can easily place this power bank and your phone in the same pocket. Which is ideal as you can have your phone charging while it’s in your pocket.
Functional Components:
All of the charging ports are on the same side at the front. On another side is where the power button and four power indicators are located. Charging automatically starts when you plug a device into this power bank, and one of the power indicators turns green to show that you’re fast charging.
Build
Structure and Material:
The build quality of this power bank is great. The borders of the power banks are made of metal and the center of the charger is made of plastic. It works well, and the charger feels put together very well. It’s definitely built for daily use.
Tech:
The charger does not overheat, and it somewhat comes as a surprise as the charger has such a slim form factor. With an 18W output, though, overheating shouldn’t occur and so there’s no surprise there anyways.
Reliability
The fast charging from the Power Delivery and Quick Charge port makes this Silicon Power portable charger reliable for fast charging smartphones and tablets. There are many USB-C Power Delivery compatible laptops, but they require that you use a 30W Power Delivery charging speed or higher.
Summary:
Power:
With an 18W Power Delivery port and a Quick Charge port, you’re able to fast charge most smartphones on the market. This also includes tablets, too, as most are compatible with either PD or QC.
Design:
The charger has a slim form factor that can slide into a pocket as easily as a smartphone can. It also has similar sizing to a smartphone so you can stack your phone on top of the power bank and use your phone while you’re charging it.
Build:
The charger has metal parts and a plastic center. It works well, and we dare say that the charger can survive a few lights falls. Even on hard-flooring.
Reliability:
It’s a very reliable charger for fast charging most smartphones on the market because of its use of Power Delivery and Quick Charge. Not so reliable for charging USB-C chargeable laptops.
