Charging stations are an upgrade from just your regular wall chargers and that’s because they have a lot more USB charging ports. However, just because they have more charging ports, doesn’t mean that more people are going to purchase a charging station over just a simple wall charger. The reason for that is because of the simplicity that comes with a wall charger because they have fewer ports and most wall chargers such a the Anker PowerPort 2 wall charger has two charging ports and is still quite powerful. So what’s the need for a charging station when a wall charger can have up to 4 USB charging ports and still use a built-in AC adapter?

The simple answer is that they’re perfect if you want to charge multiple devices at once. Lots of devices at once actually. That’s exactly what this Skiva 7-port charging station is able to do, and it’s also able to deliver some fast charging speeds with its ports. So let’s see if a charging station is right for you, or if it’s simply just too much power and charging ports.

Power

Output Charging:

There’s a total of 7 USB-A charging ports on this charging station. There isn’t a USB-C port and neither is there a DC port that you can use to charge your laptop. Of course, there is a DC port that’s used to plug in the power adapter for this charging station but that’s it.

Also, none of the USB-A port features Quick Charge so if you’re hoping to charge multiple Quick Charge compatible smartphones at once at their max charging speed, this isn’t the charging station to do it with. Instead, we recommend taking a look at Tronsmart’s Quick Charge charging station that actually uses 5 Quick Charge ports and does allow you to charge 5 Quick Charge compatible smartphones at their max charging speeds.

In this case, this Skiva charging station has each of its ports outputting a charging rate of 5V/2.4A (12W) and the max output of the charger as a whole is 84W or 16.8A. This is actually very good as the individual charging rate can still charge most USB chargeable devices at their max charging rates, such as smartphones, tablets and many other portable devices.

Also, the max output of the charger means that you’re able to use the full power of each of the ports at the same time. Since 2.4 x 7 is 16.8A. You can basically charge 7 Apple iPads at once and have each of them charge at their max charging speed, something that wall chargers can do, but since this is a charging station, it’s able to do it on a larger scale.

So charging power is very good even though his charging doesn’t feature Quick Charge, but it does make use of the full power from each of the ports even when you’re charging from 1 through 7 of the ports at once.

Design

Size and Weight:

The charging station is one of the largest stationary charging electronics due to them using many USB charging ports. So this Skiva charging station has a length of 7.5 inches, a width of 5.5 inches and a thickness of 1.4 inches. The weight of the charger is about 14 Ounces. So yeah, it’s large and it’s something that you’re going to need some space for on a table, but when it comes to charging your devices with it, you can just place them on top of the device, because that’s where the divider space is.

Functional Components:

This charging station is very easy to use as all you have to do is plug in the power adapter and then press the power button that can be found on top of the charging station. Once you press the power button the button has a Blue light and so you can plug a device into any of the 7 USB charging ports and it’ll charge for that device.

The plastic dividers have about a 0.75-inch space in between of each of them and so there’s more than enough space to place most smartphone and tablets. You can also place most portable chargers in between the dividers and having all your charging devices placed their makes charging many devices at once a lot more organized.

The dividers are not removable, and we found that to be a disappointment as there some cases where removing a few dividers would make sense. Or not having any dividers at all would be better to just lay your devices flat.

Build

Structure and Material:

This Skiva charging station has a solid build quality and it’s what you can expect from most charging stations on the market as they have to be built very well to support charging 7 devices at once. The divider is made of plastic and is able to support most devices that you place on a charge, that said, just make sure that they’re not under too much weight as they can break since they’re quite thin.

Tech:

This charging station does not feature a fan and instead just relies on the normal dissipation of heat through its vents. Some might be worried that the charger can overheat because of that, but profoundly, this charging station does overheat at all. In fact, even if you’re charging 7 devices at once, the charger may get a little warm but nothing too serious that you’re going to have to worry about the charger damaging itself or causing harm to you.

Reliability

With its ability to charge 7 devices at once, we’d say that this is a very reliable charging station and it also allows you to organize your charging devices at the top. The only way that this charger is unreliable is that it doesn’t feature fast charging tech such a Quick Charge with any of the ports. Neither does it feature USB-C ports, that said, you can always purchase Tronsmart’s Quick Charge charging station or a wall charger that features USB-C Power Delivery too for those charging technologies.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is very good with each port outputting a charging rate of 5V/2.4A, and the max output fo the charger is 16.8A, which means that you can use the max power of each of the ports at the same time.

Design:

It’s a large device as it uses many USB charging posts, but at the same time, it’s also very easy to use with just the press of a button and you’re ready to use all of the USB ports.

Build:

The structure of the charger is solid and it’s surprising it doesn’t heat up too much even when you’re charging 7 devices at once.

Reliability:

If you’re searching for a charger that can charge many devices at once, then this charging station is the one. At the same time, if you’re searching for Quick Charge power for your compatible smartphone, then we recommend something like Anker’s PowerPort+ 6.
