At this point, we’re at a peak of Bluetooth accessories, mainly when it comes to Bluetooth earbuds. This is due to most smartphones no longer using headphone jacks, and when you have a brand as large as Apple that starts this trend along with releasing their AirPods, a product that was being made fun of, and now it’s one of the most popular earbuds on the market, you get tons of competition.

The market for Bluetooth earbuds is plentiful and it’s a good thing because most people don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on earbuds. It’s one of the main reasons why we’re reviewing these SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 Noise Cancelling Earbuds. The SoundPEATS brand has grown quickly in recent years due to creating quality products while selling at a fraction or lower of the cost that big-name brands sell their earbuds at.

Let’s see how these SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 earbuds can compete.

Sound Quality

Even with a lower price for these TrueAir 2 earbuds, we can confirm that the quality does not reflect the price. We would think that these earbuds would be priced a lot higher for the sound quality that they deliver.

The first thing that you should know is that these TrueAir earbuds feature Clear Voice Capture 8.0 (CVC 8.0), which is the latest for this type of tech. What this means is that these earbuds are capable of blocking out background noise such as a train, or cars passing while you’re talking to somebody over the phone and bring your voice higher. This makes phone calls smoother to have with these TrueAir Earbuds, especially if you’re out somewhere busy.

That said, these earbuds do not feature Active Noise Canceling (ANC), which can block out environmental noises even better.

Music / Video Sound Quality

When it comes to listening to music or watching videos with these SoundPEATS earbuds, you’re going to have a good experience, it may not the “best” experience out of all the earbuds on the market due to the earbuds lacking ANC. However, even without ANC these earbuds still do a great job at delivering great sound quality.

The bass is better than you would expect, with these earbuds featuring 14.2mm drivers, quite a bit larger than what most other earbuds have. What you get are deeper bass hits that you may otherwise not feel with smaller drivers, and when you consider that these earbuds have an open-air design, the quality of the bass is impressive.

These SoundPEATS earbuds are best at delivering mids, though. We took a listen to quite a few instrumental songs and lyrical songs as well. It was clear that these TrueAir 2 earbuds can deliver mids clearly, and even at higher volumes the mids don’t turn tinny and hold their quality. By delivering these types of sounds clearly, noise cancellation doesn’t seem necessary in this case as the earbuds themselves are already delivering great sound quality.

Connectivity Controls

When it comes to using the earbuds, connecting these TrueAir 2 to your smartphone or any other Bluetooth compatible device is simple. There are two main ways to turn on the earbuds so your device can find them via Bluetooth, you can either remove them from the case and have them automatically turn on, or if they’re already removed from the case, and you want to turn them on manually you simply have to hold the SoundPEATS logo for about 1.5 seconds.

Once the earbuds are turned on and you have Bluetooth turned on with your device, the earbuds will be labeled SoundPEATS TrueAir 2, once you tap on them the earbuds will connect.

Once the earbuds are turned on, there are many controls that you can use when it comes to listening to music or watching videos.

Double Tap Earbud logo on either Earbud  – Play / Pause Music video

Single Tap on Left Earbud – Volume Down

Single Tap on Right Earbud – Volume Up

Hold Left Earbud for 1.5 Seconds  – Previous Song or Video

Hold Right Earbud for 1.5 Seconds – Next Song or Video

Double Tap Either Earbud – Answer or Hang Up Phone Call

Press and Hold Either Earbud for 1.5 seconds – Reject Phone Call

Press and Hold Either Earbud for 2 Seconds – Switch Between Two Calls

Triple Tap Either Earbud – Activate Voice Assistant

The controls work well, however, you are going to have to take some time to use them, as we had trouble missing the earbuds or tapping on another part of the earbuds that didn’t activate a certain function. When it does work, though, these TrueAir 2 earbuds are like magic.

Design and Fit

The TrueAir 2 earbuds are very comfortable to wear, and this is mainly due to their open-air design, as they don’t have buds that go directly into your ears. Yes, we understand that closed air earbuds do block out more sound and have Passive Noise-canceling that can be better for calls and overall sound quality. However, these SoundPEAT earbuds with an open-air design are more comfortable as there is not nearly as much pressure on your ears, and we tested them for a full day with On and Off listening time and didn’t feel a thing.

That said, the earbuds do feel a bit lose at a time and you may worry that they may fall out, but they won’t. When they’re in your ears, they’re going to stay there, and it’s simply the open-air design that makes them feel that way and gives you far superior comfort for long-term wearing.

Also, one of the best parts is that you don’t have to deal with earbud tips, as the fit for these is universal.

Build  / Charging and Accessories

The build quality of these are SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 is great, but you’ll still have to be careful about where you wear them. They have an IPX4 water-resistant rating, meaning that they can withstand splashes of water. These earbuds cannot be submerged in water or else they will be damaged.

What you get in the box from these TrueAir 2 earbuds are the earbuds themselves, a charging case, and USB-C to USB-A cable. The charging case is built well, and it has a magnetic closing mechanism. It’s a very small case, and honestly, it’s what most cases should be like as you’re going to easily be able to fit the case into a pocket, no matter how small your pocket is.

The earbuds magnetically connect to the case and charge. Also, the charging case uses a USB-C input for charging! We found this to be a very good thing, as USB-C is now the standard, while Micro-USB is being zoned out. The case does have a single LED power light that turns on during charging.

Conclusion:

These SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 earbuds have proven bigger name brands are truly pricing their products higher due to their popularity, not exactly for the quality they offer. Do these TrueAir 2 earbuds feature top specs? No, but they feature what you need, and even without the top specs, you won’t notice any tangible difference in sound quality, and the best part is you’ll be spending a whole lot less money.
