Tech Armor is quite a hidden power electronic charging company and we don’t mean that as an insult.

It’s actually quite a bit of a shame that many more people know of Tech Armor’s products because in some ways they’re better or at least on the same standard as the industry-leading products that companies like Anker and Aukey are able to deliver.

Tech Armor’s products may have a few of their shortcomings but for the most part, we feel that their portable chargers a pretty great.

This is the Tech Armor 12,000mAh power bank and it’s able to give a worth enough charging experience for a purchase.

Power Capacity

Starting out, the initial power capacity of the power bank is 12,000mAh and even though it decreases during charging, the conversion rate is quite good.

As a result, the conversion rate of this charger is about 80% and that means you’ll be getting about 9,600mAh of power capacity that you can actually use.

We realize that’s near 3,000mAh being lost and that could potentially be able to charge a smartphone to a full charge but you have to consider the fact that the power bank has 2 charging ports with pretty good charging speed and it’s still able to pull off an acceptable Output power capacity.

With an Output power capacity of 9,600mAh, a lot can still be done. This is very true for smartphone and you’re going to be able to charge most smartphones 4 times or more.

If you’ve got higher battery capacity smartphones like the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge then the power bank is going to be able to give about 3 full charges.

It’s not that bad considering that the battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy phones lasts really long.

If you want to charge tablets, then it’s best to charge a tablet alone and this is important to do because when you’re charging a single device alone, the conversion rate is better and the power capacity is being sent to only a single device.

The Tech Armor charger is going to be able to give full charges to either the iPad Mini 2 and 4 versions. As for higher battery capacity tablets, then it’s going to fair about 3/4 of a charge or about half charge.

Output Charging: Port 1 (Blue Port): 5V/2.1A    Port 2 (Black Port): 5V/1.3A

The charging speeds are acceptable and better than what we thought they were going to be.

However, the charging speeds still have their tight limits, just as most power banks do, but charging electronic companies like Anker have surpassed such limits put on power banks.

We say this because the charging speed between the two charging ports on the Tech Armor power bank isn’t shared, and so you’re limited to the charging speed that each port is able to give.

This is a shame because when charging speed is shared throughout each port, then it’s able to give a better charging experience.

Port 1 that’s colored Blue is able to give a charging speed of 2.1 Amps and this port is meant to charge your tablets, while the other charging ports are meant to charge smartphones.

However, that doesn’t have to be the case if you’re just charging smartphones with this power bank. If you’re NOT charging smartphones with this power bank, then it’s best to use the 2.1 Amp port with smartphones just to make sure they’re charging as fast as possible.

As for the other port, that’s colored Black, the charging speed is slower with it having an Output of 1.3 Amps.

This is what we meant that the charging speed is fixed and therefore it’s limited to the user since the 1.3 Amp port will always be Outputting a slow charging speed of 1.3 Amps.

Input Charging: 5V/1.1A

The recharging is done through a Micro-USB port and the charging speed for a power bank of its speeds with it being about 1 Amp.

So it doesn’t even matter what wall charger you recharge this power bank with, since even a 1 Amp wall charger will be able to recharge it at its max charging speed, and with that said; you can expect a full recharge within 10 hours.

Design

Size and Weight

It’s not that large of a power bank and you can very well take it with you anywhere you want, much like a mini power bank can.

The length of the Tech Armor charger is 6 inches long, it has a width of 4 inches and the thickness is 1.5 inches.

Okay so the size may not be that large but the weight of the power bank can be quite heavy and it weighs 10 ounces.

If you’re not comfortable holding something that heavy then we recommend just setting it down to use it. However, for a 12,000mAh power bank, we find its size and weight acceptable enough.

Functional Components

Tech Armor has the same usage abilities just as other power banks on the market do and that’s a good thing. But first, let’s point out where all the functional parts are.

On a short side is where you’ll find the 2 USB Output charging ports, the Micro-USB Input port, and the LED flashlight.

The LED flashlight isn’t that bright and, to be honest, we don’t understand the need for a flashlight on a power bank too much since when you turn it on it’s burning into the power capacity of the power bank.

There’s a power button on the side of the power bank and at the top is where you can find 4 LED power capacity indicators.

The power button is mainly used to check the power capacity left on the charger by simply pressing the power button and you can turn on the flashlight with it by holding the power button for 3 seconds and turning it off the same way.

Other than that, the power button isn’t used to start charging since charging begins automatically once you connect a device to the charger.

Build

Structure and Material

The structure of the Tech Armor portable charger is much like its name, with the body structure being very similar to that of armor.

It’s a very minimal structure with the power bank just having a top, bottom, and centerpiece holding it all together. It’s all made of plastic but it doesn’t feel cheap, with the plastic having a smooth varnish.

Tech

On the inside, there’s nothing that other power banks don’t feature with it having simple Lithium Ion batteries that have a very common conversion rate to other portable chargers.

On the safety tech side, we don’t know much but we can say that it most likely has the base of safety tech since it has a CE certification.

Reliability

The reliability of it can definitely go a long way. We say this because not only is the power bank highly portable but it also has the charging power to back-up its portability.

It gives you the ability to charge most smartphones 4 times or more and if you want to charge tablets to its full capacity then it’s best to charge it alone.

The most useful aspect is that you can charge 2 devices at once, the one main fault is that the Black port is always going to deliver a slow charging speed. It would be best to have the charging ports share their current to make the charging experience more well-rounded.

We feel this power bank is an all-around player and you can take it into most situations for last lasting power.

Summary:

Power:

Output power capacity is acceptable enough and with it, you can charge most smartphones 4 times or more. The charging speed design could better.

With one port you can receive a charging Output of 2.1A but throughout the other one, you can only get 1.3A. a shared charging current would be much better.

Design:

The design is one of its strongest points. The power bank is quite compact but its weight can be heavy at 10 ounces. It’s easy to use with charging automatically starting and the power bank turning off when there aren’t any devices connected to the power bank charger.

Build:

It has a very strong structure, with very few separate pieces and the charger is made of plastic. We don’t know much about the tech inside but it does use the usual safety tech.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable portable charger with its power capacity and charging capabilities. It may not have the best charging speed but it’s good enough that you can use it every day and it will deliver.

Conclusion

This Armor power bank is able to deliver at a very high level.

This is because we’re somewhat comparing it to other more well known portable charger and it’s able to stand toe to toe. From its power capacity, charging speeds and portability it does well.

We just wish that charging electronic companies would understand that having a fixed Amperage current for their power banks isn’t the way to go.
