Power banks that have high power capacities will inevitably have many charging ports because when there’s a high power capacity, there’s more to be done with that power.

Multiple charging is great for charging lots of devices at once and this is especially true if you’re using a power bank because you’re able to charge a device wherever you are, rather than being limited by a USB wall charger.

However, what’s more, important than having lots of charging ports is what are those charging ports capable of. Some power banks have lots of charging ports and yet the charging speeds aren’t that good, so charging multiple devices at once isn’t the best course of action.

Let’s see if this TierGrade 22,000mAh power bank can smartly use its ports.

Power Capacity:

The power capacity of the Tiergrade power bank starts at 22,000mAh and it goes through a regular conversion rate that a 3-port power bank usually goes through. Since there’s energy converting with the battery inside the power bank and then through the charging cable.

You also have to consider that when you’re charging multiple devices at once, which increases Amperage Output, that’s a cause of power being lost during charging too. As a result, there’s going to be an average conversion rate of 70%, and most of the time that’s going to leave you with an Output power capacity of 15,000mAh.

Charging Smartphones

Even with an average conversion rate, the TierGrade power bank does a great job at providing lots of power to smartphones because you’ll be able to charge most smartphones about 4 times or more.

Take, for example, charging a Galaxy S7 with the TierGrade with the result in 5 full charges. The same thing goes for another high capacity smartphone like the iPhone 7 Plus that can also charge 5 full times with this power bank.

So you’re going to be able to get plenty of more charges if you have a smartphone that has a lower battery capacity than either of those two smartphones we just mentioned.

Charging Mini Tablets

The TierGrade power bank also does a pretty good job at handling to charge Mini iPads because whether you’re charging an iPad Mini 2 or 4 series, they’ll be able to charge about 2.5 times. Charging a Galaxy Tab A is the same say but you’ll fair a bit more at 3 full charges.

Charging Full-Sized Tablets

Lastly, you can even charge a Full-Sized iPad 12-Inch to its full power only once, but even then, the TierGrade power bank will still have some power capacity left over to charge a smartphone to its full power.

Output Charging:

This is where the TierGrade falls short because it means well with its 3 charging ports but the power simply isn’t there.

There’s one charging port that has a charging speed of 5V/2.4A and the other two charging ports have a charging speed of 5V/1.2A. The Max Output of the power bank is 4.8A.

Just How Good are the Charging Speeds?

If there are two things that the power bank does very well it’s that each charging port can be used to its full potential and also the max Output of the power bank isn’t limiting.

With that said, the two charging ports that have a charging speed of 5V/1.2A offer slow charging and this is true for when you’re either charging a smartphone or tablets.

It would have been better for the TierGrade power bank to just use 2 charging ports and have them both have an output of 5V/2.4A. This way you could charge 2 Tablets at the same time and have them charge at their max charging speed.

How You Should Use the Ports

Although, in this case, you want to use the port with 2.4A first because it’ll charge your device the fastest and the other two charging ports should be used with the knowledge that they’re going to be charged slower than usual.

With that said, you’re at least able to take advantage of all the charging power without any compromises because if you’re charging 3 devices at once, the charging port speeds of 2.4+1.2+1.2 are equal to the Max Output of 4.8A.

Input Charging:

On the recharging side, the TierGrade power bank is recharged through a Micro-USB input port with a recharge speed of 5V/2.0A. The TierGrade power bank comes with a USB wall charger that a charging speed of 5V/2.1A throughout each of its charging ports. So you’ll be able to recharge the power bank at its max charging speed with the wall charger that it comes with.

Design

Size and Weight:

Along with the high power capacity, the power bank is quite large and heavy.

It has a length of 6.5 inches, a width of 3 inches, and a thickness of 0.8 inches. The weight of the power bank is 15.2 ounces. So it’s still portable but it’s still large and heavy enough that it won’t be very comfortable to hold in a single hand for too long.

Functional Components:

The 3 charging ports are on the short side of the power bank. On top is where there are the power button and the 4 Orange LED power capacity indicators. On the long side of the power bank is where you’ll find the Micro-USB Input port.

Charging automatically starts and that means you’re mostly going to be using the power button to check the power capacity.

Build

Structure and Material:

The TierGrade power bank is made of plastic but it has a certain sturdiness to it that makes it great to use every day. However, it’s important to be cautious when you have the power bank over hard flooring because it might not be able to take a drop like that.

Tech:

On the tech side, the TierGrade power bank has the basic safety feature to keep you and your devices safe during charging.

Reliability

Here’s the thing, there are better power banks that have nearly as much power capacity. By that we mean they do the charging portion better than the TierGrade power bank because instead of spreading charging throughout 3 charging ports, it’s best to just use two charging ports and have them be powerful.

In the TierGrade’s case, two charging ports that have 5V/1.2A charging speeds are spread too thinly and are a 2.4A port that has been split into two. So you can’t charge two iPads at their max charging speeds.

Summary:

Power:

The power capacity even when it goes through its conversion is still enough to charge most smartphones and Mini tablets multiple times. It’s a good power bank to take on long road trips, or for when you’re traveling.

There should only be 2 charging ports so more power is available to use from each.

Design:

It’s large and heavy, but that’s to be expected when you have something with its power capacity.

Build:

It has a sturdy built quality but doesn’t go dropping it on a hard floor because it doesn’t have any build qualities that protect it from shock damage in the event of a fall.

Reliability:

The TierGrade power bank has a lot of good quality with its high power capacity and 3 charging ports. With that said, the use of 2 charging ports, with them both having a 5V/2.4A charging speed would have been more reliable to use and provide more quality.
