Charging our portable devices is something that we practically do every day, and the usual charging electronic that we use are USB wall chargers. Portable chargers are also useful for charging our smartphones, tablets and some portable chargers are even able to charge laptops with the use of USB-C Power Delivery. That said, car charging is really one charging electronic that most people don’t make the absolute use of.

However, using a car charger can be vital for two reasons. Reason number one is if you’re someone that commutes a lot with driving a car, then charging your smartphone while you’re focused on driving is a perfect time to charge. The second reason that car charging can be highly useful is if you have a smartphone that is fast charging compatible. In this case, we’re talking about Quick Charge compatible smartphones. That’s because even if you have a short drive to your destination and still really need your smartphone at least charged up, then a car charger with Quick Charge is able to do just that.

That’s what we’re here to review right now, and it would be this Tronsmart 33W car charger with a built-in USB charging cable and it also has a USB-A port with Quick Charge. So there are basically two fast charging technologies at work here, so let’s see if this Fast Charging car charger is for you.

Power

USB-C Charging Cable:

First thing when you’re considering to get this Tronsmart car charger is knowing that’s it’s really meant for those that own a USB-C compatible smartphone. Most new Android smartphones are now USB-C compatible as it’s becoming the new standard for connectivity and charging. SO if you’re reading this review and you’re still using an Andriod smartphone that uses a Micro-USB smartphone or an iPhone, then it’s best to give a pass to this car charger

So the first charging part that we’re mentioning is the built-in USB-C charging cable, and the cable on this charger actually features Quick Charge. So you’re able to charge your Quick Charge compatible smartphone (that is also USB-C compatible) at its max charging speed.

USB-A Port:

The USB port on this car charger also uses Quick Charge, so you can charge any Android smartphone that is Quick Charge compatible at its max charging speed, as you’re able to use any charging cable with it. Also, you can charge any other Non-Quick Charge compatible devices with this car charger too, and the USB-A port will output a standard charging speed of 5V/2.4A.

Max Output:

The max output of this Tronsmart car charger is 33W, what this means is that if you’re Quick Charging with one charging method, then the other port will be limited to a 5V/3.0A charging speed.

As Quick Charge is 18W of power, and since the max output is 33W, the other charging option would have to be limited to 15W (5V/3.0A).

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of a car charger, no matter how many charging ports it has, isn’t a really a problem because car chargers, in general, are very small. There are car chargers that are so small that they’re basically flush-fit and fit entirely into a 12Volt outlet.

It has a length of 2.7 inches, a width of 1.2 inches and a thickness of 0.9 inches. The weight of the charger is 0.8 Ounces, it’s a low-profile car charger that you really won’t notice until you’re using it.

Functional Components:

The built-in USB-C charging cable with this car charger is about 3 feet long and that’s really long and allows you to place your smartphone wherever you’d like to. The USB-A port is right next to the USB-C charging cable and it has a Green Color to show that the charger is Quick Charge compatible.

The car charger does not have an LED light, and that’s really the only negative part of using it, as having a dim light would make it easier to find the car charger during the night time.

Build

Structure and Material:

When a charging electronic in general uses a built-in cable the build quality can be quite a large concern, because if that part of the charging electronic breaks then you can’t use it. However, in our experience, the USB-C charging cable on this car charger is very durable and it holds well from the USB-C port end all the way to the connection with the car charger itself.

Tech:

If you’re charging a Quick Charge compatible smartphone with one charging method and charging another device at the same time, then this car charger can tend to get quite warm. Not hot, but the car charger is able to slow down charging in order to cool itself down.

Reliability

As we said at the beginning of this review, this car charger is going to be very reliable for those that own a USB-C Quick Charge compatible smartphone as both of those technologies are most prevalent with this car charger. This Tronsmart car charger isn’t going to be very reliable for those that own an iPhone or a smartphone that doesn’t use USB-C, as you won’t be able to use the built-in USB-C charging cable.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power with this car charger is very good for those that Quick Charge compatible smartphone as either one of the charging methods is able to use Quick Charge.

Design:

It’s easy to use the car charger and the use of a USB-C charging cable being built-in is very useful if you own USB-C compatible smartphone since you don’t have to use a separate charging cable.

Build:

The build quality of the car charger is actually very good as the built-in charging cable stays put.

Reliability:

This Tronsmart car charge is absolutely reliable if you have Quick Charge compatible smartphone such as a Galaxy S8 or other smartphones that use USB-C and Quick Charge. Not so reliable for Micro-USB Android smartphones or iPhone as you won’t be able to use the built-in charging cable.
