Wireless charging has become more popular in recent years, and the main thanks go to the iPhone X and the iPhone 8, both of which were the first iPhones to become Qi wireless charging enabled.

With that, it set off many different brands to make more wireless charger variants. In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at a wireless charger from the brand, TYLT. What makes this charger so special is that you’re able to change the orientation of the charger and how you want your smartphone to be placed on it.

So let’s take a closer look.

Power

Output Charging:

Along with cool design for this charger, it features fast wireless charging for Samsung smartphones. That means if you have a Samsung Qi compatible smartphone, this TYLT charger is able to charge it at a 10W charging speed. That’s because Samsung smartphones are able to charge faster with certain wireless chargers.

As for other Qi-compatible smartphones, this charger will only charge them at a 5W charging speed.

Yes, that even goes for the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, or basically all wireless charging compatible iPhones. Even though iPhones are able to fast charge wirelessly at a 7.5W charging speed, this charger does not feature that.

Input Charging:

In order to get the fast wireless charging speed for Samsung smartphones, you have to use a Quick Charge wall charger to power this charger. The great news is that the charger already comes with a Quick Charge wall charger and it even comes with a Micro-USB cable that you can connect to the charger itself.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of this charger is a bit different than other wireless chargers that you’ve either seen or owned.  It has a sphere shape which has a 3.8-inch length/width, and the height of the charger is 2.8 inches.

So it’s basically the same size of any other wireless charger that you’ve owned but this one simply has a different form factor that you can slightly change.

Functional Components:

Slightly change the form factor? Yes, you can change this wireless charger from a stand to flat charging pad, and that is done by simply twisting the top silver part of the charger.

When it’s at an incline we thought that a smartphone would just slide off the charger, since there’s no support at the edge. However, the four rubber pads on top of the charger do a great job at holding the phone even when it’s in stand form.

To actually power and use this TYLT charger there’s a Micro-USB input port at the back of the charger. Once you place your phone on the pad and it’s charging, there’s a White power indicator that turns on at the front.

Build

Structure and Material:

Even though the bottom portion of the charger looks like wood, it’s not. This is perhaps the most disappointing part of this charger as all the promotional pictures make it look to be real wood, heck, even in-person it looks like real wood.

However, one touch and you’ll realize that it’s just plastic. When it comes to twisting the top, everything feels smooth, but the use of real wood have been quite cool. At the same time, it would have been quite unsafe as wireless chargers are known to heat up, too.

Tech:

Even when you’re fast charging a Samsung phone, the charger doesn’t heat up from the surface.

Reliability

This TYLT twisty wireless charging pad is going to be reliable for anyone that owns a wireless charging smartphone. That said, it’s going to be most reliable for Samsung smartphones users, as it’s able to charge them at a faster speed.

Another reliable part of getting this charger is that it comes with everything that you need to use it, with it including a wall charger and a Micro-USB cable.

Power:

Charging power for Samsung phones have a great benefit as they’re able to fast charge, all other wireless charging smartphones will charge at a 5W charging speed.

Design:

The ability to change what orientation you want your smartphone to be with this charger is pretty cool. The pads do a great job of keeping your phone in place.

Build:

The build quality of this charger is pretty good, but a word warning is to be careful about thinking that the wood portion is real wood. It’s actually plastic.

Reliability:

The charger is cool to use and actually comes with everything that you need to use it at its full power.

Conclusion:

TYLT’s twisty wireless charging pad is definitely a unique twist with the wireless charging segment, as it offers a real-time change from a pad to stand form factor. Even though it doesn’t use real wood with its bottom portion, it sure does look like real wood.
