When it comes to using portable devices, the two most common things they share is that almost all of them use Bluetooth, so they have a wireless aspect to them. Another part is that most portable devices now use some sort of fast charging tech, with the two most common being Power Delivery and Quick Charge.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at this UGREEN Bluetooth FM transmitter with Power Delivery and Quick Charge. If you have a car that doesn’t have Bluetooth built-in, which many people still do, and want to have the ability to use Bluetooth to connect to your phone instead of an AUX cord, then this UGREEN car charger is definitely for you. The charger is made even better with its fast charging capabilities.

Power

Output Charging:

The charging from this UGREEN FM car charger is great, and as we said before it’s because the charger has two fast charging ports, but there are three ports to charge from.

One port is a USB-C Power Delivery port and it has an 18W charging speed. An 18W Power Delivery charging speed is most helpful for fast charging Power Delivery compatible smartphones, such as most USB-C Android smartphones, and iPhones, too. 18W of charging power is not enough for charging Power Delivery compatible laptops, so we don’t recommend relying on the port for that.

The other fast charging port is a USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 port that can fast charge Quick Charge compatible Android smartphones. You can still charge Non-Quick Charge compatible smartphones via the Quick Charge port, such as iPhones but the port will default to 5V/2.4A.

The third charging port isn’t exactly a dedicated charging port because the port is mainly used for connecting USB flash drives for connecting music to the transmitter. That said, the charging speed from the other USB-A port is only 5V/700mA which is considerably lower than most standard charging ports, with a 5V/2.4A, so we don’t recommend charging from this port as it’s very slow.

Bluetooth and Other Features

The main highlight of getting this UGREEN is that it’s a Bluetooth FM car transmitter, too. As we mentioned at the start of this review, you don’t have to rely on an AUX cord with your car to play your music, and therefore you’re able to go completely wireless.

You have to plug the car charger into a 12Volt port in your car, and that’s exactly what we did. The car charger transmitter has all of its controls at the front. Once plugged in, there is a LED digital screen at the front that shows what FM station the car charger is set to.

Also at teh front with the LED screen is where you’ll find buttons for a selecting a previous song or the next song, there is also a knob that doubles as a volume knob, and it can be pressed to answer calls.

The knob can also be held down to change the FM frequency setting, and here in Northern, Virginia, we set the frequency to 89.5 FM, and we got great sound quality without any distortion.

Also, you’re able to make calls over the transmitter and audio quality was great, too. So you can have a hands-free phone call. That said, we just want to say that you should be more careful about driving than talking over the phone while driving, as even a hands-free call splits your attention from the road.

Connecting

Connecting a phone to the UGREEN transmitter is very easy. Once plugged in you’re ready to connect your phone to the transmitter, and you only have to turn on Bluetooth, have your phone search for the transmitter which will be labeled as UGREEN-ED040, and then tap to connect.

Of course, reconnecting to the transmitter again should be faster as it’s already saved on your phone, and in our case, we did our test with a Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

Other ways of listening to music via the transmitter are plugging in a flash drive via the “Music” USB-A port or you can place a TF card in the side slot.

Design

Size and Weight:

The only “large” part of this UGREEN car charger is the place where all the buttons and charging ports are, and that’s going to be a given as this car charger has so many features. It won’t get in the way though, and it’s all generally compact.

Functional Components:

We mentioned most of the functional parts previously in this review, with basically everything being at the front, but one small issue is that everything is built onto the base of the car charger.

So viewing the screen that shows the FM frequency is a bit difficult to view, especially if you have a 12Volt port that is down below. Using the buttons and the knob for volume controls is easy to use. That said, you’re probably better off just using your vehicle’s volume knob.

Build

Structure and Material:

This UGREEN car charger has a great build quality, with the buttons and the knob feeling solid to use. The screen is also bright and easy to read.

Tech:

The car charger does not get warm, and this can be thanked the 24W max output from the car charger. You’re not able to use the max out of the Power Delivery and Quick Charge port at the same time, a bit of a downside, but it’s so the charger doesn’t heat up.

Reliability

If you have a car that doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth, then this UGREEN FM transmitter is a must-have. As you’ll be able to go wireless, and potentially fast charge your phone using either the Quick Charge port or the USB-C Power Delivery port.

Summary:

Power:

The charging is great as the car charger uses Power Delivery and Quick Charge.

Design:

It’s easy to use the transmitter with a few buttons and a responsive knob. The screen can be a bit difficult to view, though.

Build:

The charger does not overheat because of its lower 24W max output that prevents overheating.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable car transmitter for those that don’t have built-in Bluetooth and the add-on of fast charging a huge plus.
