The Power Queen 100Ah LiFePO4 Trolling Motor Low Temp battery is a solid entry in the world of deep cycle batteries, providing boaters and outdoor enthusiasts with a dependable power source for their trolling motors. The combination of an affordable price point, significant cycle life, and versatility, especially when paired with an inverter, transforms this unit into a compact power station ideal for various applications.

What’s in the Box?

Upon opening the box of the Power Queen battery, the contents are straightforward and no-nonsense: the battery itself, two post bolts, a pair of rubber caps for the positive and negative terminals, a user manual, and standard documentation. Much like other batteries in its category, it does not include a charger or inverter cables, which are sold separately.

Dimensionally, the Power Queen battery is well within the expected range for its type, measuring 13 inches in length, 6 inches in width, and 8 inches in height. Weighing in at 22 pounds, it is relatively easy to transport, thanks in part to a convenient removable strap. A noteworthy feature of this battery is its low-temperature charging protection that activates at 32°F, with recovery kicking in at 41°F. Moreover, the IP65 water-resistance rating is a significant boon, particularly for a trolling motor battery, ensuring it can withstand splashes, including saltwater exposure.

Battery Capacity

The rated capacity of the Power Queen battery is 12.8V 100Ah, equating to 1280Wh when calculated into watt-hours. This capacity is on par with what you’d expect from a high-capacity power station, offering ample energy for various needs. A critical factor in battery performance, and a focus of this review, is capacity efficiency—essentially, how much of that 1280Wh is usable.

In testing, the Power Queen’s capacity was put through its paces with a load tester simulating a 120W draw until depletion. The results were impressive: the battery not only met its stated capacity but exceeded it, offering a 1331Wh battery capacity or a 101% capacity efficiency. This level of performance confirms the value proposition of this battery.

Inverter Performance

Another test involved pairing the battery with a 2000W Pure Sine Wave inverter and powering a heater until the battery was drained. The AC capacity measured at 1130Wh, translating to an 88% AC capacity efficiency—quite competitive, even surpassing many power stations’ AC outputs.

The real-world power application was not without its limits; the battery sustained a 1280W power draw, which aligns with its continuous output rating. Pushing the battery past this point with a 1350W load led to a quick shutdown, a reasonable safeguard to prevent damage. However, the battery managed an 800W load consistently, powering the heater without interruption until it was completely discharged.
