(Last Updated On: April 26, 2019)

When it comes to charging electronics, things are actually changing quite a lot over time. For example, the new iPhone X and iPhone 8 are compatible with wireless charging and they’re also compatible with Power Delivery.

The Power Delivery compatibility is a little less known than the wireless charging feature, but yes, it’s possible to charge them at PD speeds. So staying up to date with all the lastest charging tech enables you to make sure that you’re going to be getting the fastest charging speed for your devices.

In this case, we’re talking about wireless chargers using USB-C input ports. The use of a USB-C input port with a wireless charger is not very common at all and most on the market use a Micro-USB input port. This Aukey Graphite LC-C5 wireless charger that we’re reviewing here is actually future proof and that’s because it uses a USB-C port. As new Android smartphones and a bunch of other larger devices such as laptops and tablets are now using USB-C.

If you’re someone that owns a smartphone which uses USB-C to charge then this Aukey wireless charger may very well be a good choice. But let’s see what else it has to offer.

Power

Output Charging:

In general, wireless charging is not really the way that you’re going to want to charge your smartphone if you want it to charge fast. As wireless charging is slow. Even with it using a USB-C input port, we thought this wireless charger would feature some fast charging tech for compatible smartphones such as the iPhone X / iPhone 8 or Samsung Qi compatible smartphones. Unfortunately, there is no fast charging tech with this charger.

What you get instead is a standard charging rate of 5V/1.0A for all Qi wireless compatible devices. That’s because this charger takes 2 Amps of power no matter what wall charger you’re using, as long as it’s 2 Amps or more.

If you own a Samsung smartphone or the iPhone 8 or iPhone X, then we highly recommend taking a look at more powerful wireless chargers that do feature Fast charge as this charger doesn’t have it.

It’s a bit disappointing that this charger doesn’t have Fast Wireless charging as it already uses a USB-C port, but we think that Aukey just wanted to normalize this charger so that everyone would think that it’s made for universal wireless charging it as it’s not specifically stating fast charging for certain devices.

Input Charging:

The hallmark side of this charger is that it uses a USB-C input port to be powered, and that’s major because most wireless chargers on the market don’t use this new standard. In order to make sure that you’re going to get the most from this charger, you have to use a 2 Amp USB wall charger to higher.

Design

Size and Weight:

When it comes to wireless charging pads, you can basically expect the same thing in terms of size for most of them. That’s because this charger has a length/width of 3.4 inches and it has a thickness of 0.4 inches. The weight of this charger is 4 Ounces.

With its very small size and smartphones, these days actually being quite large, using your smartphone while it’s charging atop of this charger is still possible. We just suggest tapping lightly at the top and bottom of your smartphone because those parts are going to be to hanging off and can offset easily if there’s too much pressure put on any one side.

Functional Components:

Using this charger is easy, as all you’ll need is a USB-C to USB-A charging cable and a 2 Amp wall charger. This Aukey wireless charger comes with a USB-C to USB-A charging cable, but you’ll have to provide your own wall charger.

Once you have it powered, you can just place your smartphone in the center of the charger and have it charge.  There’s a very small LED light on this charger and it has two colors. With the Red color meaning that nothing is charging and it’s on standby. The Green color means that your smartphone is charging.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this charger is very good, it has some weight to it that makes it feel premium. With the top of the charger having rubber that grips onto your smartphone and prevents it from sliding around. At the bottom of the charger is where there are rubber pads that prevent the charger from sliding around too.

Tech:

On the tech side, you can expect your smartphone and the wireless charger to heat up, and that’s the case with wireless charging in general. Once your smartphone is at full power it will automatically shut-off.

Reliability

This is a very reliable wireless charger that can charge all Qi compatible smartphones. That said, if you own either Samsung Qi compatible smartphone or an iPhone 8 or iPhone X, then it’s not really the best idea to purchase this one. That’s because, despite its use of a USB-C input port, it only offers standard wireless charging and not Fast Wireless charging.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is standard at 1 Amp speeds for all Qi compatible smartphones. If you have either a Samsung smartphone that’s Qi compatible or the new iPhones, then it’s best to purchase one of these wireless chargers for Fast Wireless charging. The use of a USB-C input is very good as it makes the charger future-proof.

Design:

It’s a small charger, and so if you want to use your smartphone while it charges, then you have to tap lightly so you don’t offset it.

Build:

Build quality is good, with the charger using rubber on the top and bottom to avoid slippage for your smartphone and of the charger itself.

Reliability:

It’s compatible with al Qi compatible smartphones and it’s useful that it uses a USB-C input. The lack of Fast Charging does make it unreliable if you do own a Fast Wireless charging compatible smartphone, though.
