Here at Charger Harbor, we think car chargers can be a very useful type of charger. This is true if you have a fast charging compatible smartphone to charge with. The type of car chargers that most people use is now changing, with many changing to wireless car charger mounts, as they double as a way for you to have easier access to your smartphone and charge it at the same time.

In this review, we’re going to be taking a look at Anker’s PowerWave fast wireless car charger mount with a 7.5W and 10W charging speed. This charger can deliver some powerful charging for certain smartphones while providing a great user experience with its design.

Power

Output Charging:

A Fast charging Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The charging power from this Anker wireless car charger is going to be the best for Wireless charging iPhone users and Samsung smartphone users. This is because this car charger features fast wireless charging for those two types of smartphones.

If you have an iPhone X, iPhone 8, XS, 11, or 11 Max Pro, then you’re able to charge your iPhone at a 7.5W fast wireless charging speed.

Galaxy Note 9 on the PowerWave charging mount

If you have a Samsung phone from the Samsung Galaxy S7 to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and S10+, then you can fast charge your phone at a 10W charging speed.

For all other phones that are wireless charging compatible, they will receive a 5W charging speed from this Anker car charger. That said, it’s not to say that if you have non-compatible fast wireless charging smartphone that this car charger is not worth getting. The design of this charger and how you’re able to use it may very well be worth it.

Input Charging:

Also, something important to remember is that for iPhones and Samsung phones to receive their respective 7.5W and 10W charging speed, you have to power this wireless charger with a Quick Charge car charger. Anker does sell this car charger with a bundle of their very own PowerDrive+ 2 Quick Charger. Or you can purchase just the wireless charger alone.

The wireless charger itself users a Micro-USB input port where it’s powered from.

Design

Size and Weight:

Despite being a wireless charger, the charger mount is very small. It has a length of 4.6 inches, a width of 2.9 inches, and a thickness of 2.3 inches.

Functional Components:

Single Lever Attachment

So, when it comes to using the PowerWave wireless charger, it comes with two mounting attachments. Each of the mounting attachments can only be used to attach to an AC vent in your car.

Triple Lever Attachment

The first one is the more simple attachment that uses a 3 level tight adjustment for mounting on your AC vent. This one does give a tight grip on the vent, but not as tight as the other attachment that the PowerWave charger comes with.

The other attachment also uses lever, but this one does not have any levels and simply has a single tighten adjustment. The tightness level for this one is a lot higher than the previous attachment. Also, this attachment has two rubber pad holds at the bottom that can touch a surface next to the vents and stabilize the mount even more.

At the back of the wireless charger, the piece is where you’ll find the rotation knob and you can un-tighten and tighten the knob to move the wireless charger where you want it to be facing. You can also place the charger vertically or horizontally with the back rotation knob.

Also, to the back is where there’s a knob to control the bottom hold for your smartphone and you can move it up and down.

Side button opens up side holders

Off to the side, there the release button to move the side holders. Also, to the side is where there’s a single blue LED light that turns on while you’re charging your smartphone.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this wireless car charger is on par with what you would find with other Anker car chargers. Yes, all the parts with this charger and the attachments are plastic, but they’re not brittle, and the levers for both mounting attachments work well to hold onto an AC vent.

The knobs unloosen easily and the release for the side holders slide away from your phone smoothly and efficiently. There are also rubber pads on the side and bottom holders for your phone.

Tech:

The one main worry when it comes to wireless charging mounts is the heating factor. Using this mount in the Spring or Summer is fine because there’s a high chance that you’re going to be using Air Conditioning or not using AC at all and just have the windows open.

Using a mount in Fall and Summer is where things can get tricky. This is because wireless charging already generates quite a bit of heat, from the wireless charger and to your smartphone. Adding heating on top of that from the vent gets to make things even warmer.

There are heating vents at the back of the charger to dissipate any extra heat, though. We recommend closing the inner vents so that overheating does not occur for the charger.

Reliability

Blue LED power light that turns on when your phone is charging

This PowerWave wireless car charger has a more reliable charging speed for iPhone and Samsung users, due to it featuring 10W and 7.5W fast charging. It’s also neat that this charger comes with two attachments that can be used, but we found one to be a lot better than the other.

The main concern for reliability is how this charger will hold up when you’re using heat during the winter. We recommend to just close off the inner vents for the vent that you’re attaching this car charger too.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is going to be the best for Samsung and iPhone owners because they’re able to get 7.5W and 10W fast charging. All other wireless charging smartphones will receive a 5W charging speed.

Design:

There are two mounting attachments, with the one having a single level lever being the most useful, and especially with its bottom rubber grips.

Build:

Build quality-wise, this PowerWave charger is great and the attachments hold strongly to the AC vent.

The only negative would be when you’re using heat during the cold months as wireless charging is already warm enough, and you’ve got heat on top of that. Just close off the vents to prevent overheating.

Reliability:

It’s a reliable car charger that can be useful if you want to charge your device faster without worrying about cables and have easier access to your smartphone while driving.
