Charging via USB-C is better than other charging options because of how accessible it is on different types of chargers. Wall chargers can have multiple USB-C ports, which enables you to charge two laptops, and some can charge more than that; this is also true for a portable charger. Another easy way to use USB-C Power Delivery is car chargers, as most people don’t need to charge a laptop while driving and instead opt for just charging their phones when they need to.

If you’ve got a USB-C chargeable laptop and want to charge it while commuting to work or school, this review of the Baseus 65W Power Delivery car charger will be helpful to you. This Baseus car charger has a more vital Power Delivery port than most car chargers and aims to be a universal charger for all your big or small devices.

Power

Output Charging:

Even though this is just a car charger, and there’s not too much detail, charging power is not lacking. This Baseus car charger has a max output of 65W and does feature dynamic charging that changes the charging speed of both ports depending on if you have one or two devices charging simultaneously.

The charger has a USB-C Power Delivery port and a USB-A port. The USB-C PD port is the main reason to get this car charger because it’s the port that can output 65W if you’re charging a single device via the car charger, while the USB-A port has a 30W output alone.

We tested the USB-C port with a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 laptop and charged the computer alone, and the laptop was able to charge at 25W. We then charged the Lenovo laptop via the USB-C port and a Samsung Galaxy S20 via the USB-A port simultaneously; the results were great with the Lenovo laptop maintaining its 25W charge rate, and the Galaxy S20 could fast charge via the USB-A port.

You can charge a laptop and fast charge a phone simultaneously because the USB-C port drops to 45W, and the USB-A port drops to 18W. 45W via the USB-C PD port is still more than enough to charge most USB-C laptops, and 18W can fast charge most Android smartphones.

Design

Size and Weight:

This Baseus car charger is as big as most other chargers, and you can expect about an inch to stick out from your 12Volt plug.

Functional Components:

Design-wise, this Baseus car charger is different from most others because at the charger’s front is an LED screen that shows both ports’ current Amperage and Voltage. The screen cycles through both ports periodically, and it’s pretty neat to see how much power you’re using. At the same time, most users won’t care for the charging speed showing, as it’s just an add-on feature that doesn’t add much value, but it’s still neat to have.

Included in the box with the car charger is a USB-C to USB-C cable to immediately start charging out of the box.

Build

Structure and Material:

The charger is mainly made of plastic, but there are a few parts of aluminum. The plastic tip of the car charger is transparent, and you can see the charger’s inner components.

Tech:

The car charger has automatic temperature control if you’re ever worried about overheating, which means that it slows down charging to cool itself down.

Reliability

This is a very reliable car charger to own, whether you have a USB-C smartphone, tablet, or laptop, as the 65W USB-C Power Delivery port can charge most of those devices. Being able to charge a laptop when you need it charged up by the time you reach your destination can happen unexpectedly, and during that time, this car charger is very reliable. Adding an included USB-C to USB-C cable increases the reliability of purchasing this car charger.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is not lacking because you can charge your laptop faster by charging it alone with a 65W output via the USB-C PD port, or you can utilize a 45W output via the USB-C PD port and fast charge another device via the USB-A port.

Design:

Including an Amperage and Voltage meter is pretty cool, and it lets you have an easier time seeing the car charger at night.

Build:

The car charger didn’t have any build quality issues in our tests, and it’s built well for everyday use.

Reliability:

Using a powerful 65W USB-C PD port and a USB-A Quick Charge port, this is a go-to charger for most charging needs for smartphones and laptops.
