GaN Power Delivery wall chargers are a significant step forward in how we charge our devices because the Gallium Nitride (GaN) allows a charger to be smaller while still outputting tons of charging power. This has given manufacturers the ability to create chargers with many ports, high power output, and small size, which means that you’ll only need a single charger for all your devices.

In this review, I’m looking at this Alxum GaN 100W 4 port Power Delivery wall charger. This might be the only charger you’ll ever need because of its power output and many charging ports, but let’s check how it performs.

Charging Speed

So there are three USB-C ports and a single USB-A port on this Alxum wall charger. The USB-C 1 and USB-C 2 port are the two most powerful ports as they can each output the full 100W if you’re charging a single device from the wall charger. USB-C 3 has a 20W charging speed, and the USB-A port features Quick Charge with an 18W output.

Even though USB-C 1 and USB-C 2 can output 100W when you have only one device charging, when it comes to charging multiple devices and having the 100W max output getting split up, I’d say that USB-C 1 is the most powerful port.

For my testing, I started by connecting an Excitrus power bank to the USB-C 1 port because this power bank has a 100W input speed, and this Alxum wall charger was able to recharge the power bank at the full 100W. Next, I connected my Lenovo laptop to the USB-C 2 port, and my laptop was only able to charge at about 4W when I had a power bank charging from USB-C 1 simultaneously. My laptop was charging slowly because the USB-C 1 port had a 65W charge rate and the USB-C 2 port had a 30W output.

This Lenovo laptop requires a 45W charge rate or higher to fast charge, so I plugged the laptop into USB-C 1 and the power bank into USB-C 2; my laptop began fast charging at about 35W from USB-C 1, and the Excitrus power bank charged at about 30W from USB-C 2.

To charge three devices simultaneously, I plugged my Galaxy Note 9 into USB-C 3, and the Note 9 could fast charge because of the port’s 20W output. My Lenovo laptop continued to fast charge. However, the Excitrus power bank stopped charging from the USB-C 3 port. I couldn’t figure out why because it wasn’t the cable, the watt meter I was using, and the charging speed from USB-C 3 did not change.

With the Excitrus power bank no longer charging from USB-C 3, I changed to charging a Baseus power bank from the USB-C 3 port, which began charging at 30W, with the laptop and the Note 9 continuing to fast charge. Not sure why the Excitrus power bank stopped charging when I plugged in the Note 9 to USB-C 3, but it could be a device-specific issue.

For the final step of charging four devices at the same time, I plugged in an LG G7 to the USB-A port; the LG G7 standard charged, and the Note 9 continued to fast charge; I’m not sure how the Note 9 was able to continue to fast charge because the USB-C 3 and the USB-A port only output 7.5W when four devices are charging; the USB-C 1 port outputs 45W, and the USB-C 2 port output 30W.

The charging power from this Alxum wall charger is excellent as you can fast charge three devices simultaneously on such a small size. It helps to know the power allocation, and thankfully, Alxum has included a manual that shows how much power each of the ports outputs depending on how many devices you’re charging.

Size and Weight

This is a small charger, thanks to the GaN tech; this Alxum charger has a length and width of 2.5 inches and a thickness of 1.2 inches. The charger itself weighs 7 ounces. I wouldn’t have any problems taking this charger anywhere I want to, and I could even fit it into a pocket. There’s also a foldable plug that makes portability easier.

Functional Components

Just like any other charger, this one requires that you unfold the plug and plug it into an outlet, and you’re ready to use it. All the charging ports are on the same side, and there’s a dim white power light that’s noticeable if you’re looking for the charger in the dark but not a disturbance while trying to sleep.

Structure and Material

The build of this Alxum charger is just like any other wall charger I’ve reviewed; it’s made of plastic and has a solid overall build. A groove pattern to the charger’s sides makes it easier to hold and makes it stand out from the other chargers on the market.

Tech

The Alxum charger got warm when using the full or near total 100W max output, which is expected. Heat is always generated during charging, which has been the case for every other charger I’ve reviewed.

Reliability

If you heavily rely on USB-C Power Delivery charging, this Alxum charger will be very reliable, especially if you have a USB-C chargeable laptop and a USB-C chargeable phone, which you may already have. Just a reminder, the iPhone may not currently use a USB-C port, but you can still use a USB-C to Lightning cable to charge it from a USB-C port, which can charge faster. Add on the many charging ports and small size for easier portability; this Alxum charger is a decent all-in-one charger.

Conclusion:

This Alxum 100W GaN 4 port Power Delivery wall charger is a welcome addition to the market of PD chargers, and this one comes at a lower cost than some leading brands. If you don’t mind buying from a smaller brand, this is a good alternative that performs well.
