Charging is something that all of us basically do every single day. As a result, there are also many ways that we can charge our devices. Most of the time we just settle for wall chargers as they’re easy to use and most of the new smartphones that we purchase come with a wall charger. That said, the new type of wall charger that’s also useful are wireless chargers.

How does that even make sense? Well, wireless chargers are basically like wall chargers, but in this case, you’re not connecting any charging cables to your smartphone. All you’re doing it just placing your smartphone on top of the charger and it starts charging. It sounds simple and that’s because it is, and it’s one of the main reasons that makes wireless charging so attractive as you don’t have to deal with charging cable directly, unlike other charging electronics you do.

So with wireless charging being pretty cool lately, we’re here with this Anker PowerPort Wireless 10 charger. It’s from one of the largest charging electronics brands on the market so let’s see what it has to offer with its charging power and user experience.

Power

Output Charging:

When it comes to wireless charging there are two main charging speeds that you’re able to get at the time of writing this review. There’s the standard charging and there’s Fast Wireless charging. For the most part, many wireless chargers on the market have standard charging, and that can be a let down if you have a smartphone that is compatible to use with Fast Wireless charging.

Just two things that we should mention right now though. It would be that wireless charging is slower than wired charging, in almost every case. Another is that Fast Wireless charging is only compatible to work with Samsung smartphones that are Qi compatible.

In this case, this Anker PowerPort Wireless 10 charger has Fast charging because it requires that you use a Quick Charge wall charger and that will result in its 5V/2.0A charging speed. However, the disappointing parts of this wireless charger is that even though it does feature Fast Wireless charging, it’s not available to the iPhone X or the iPhone 8.

There are wireless chargers on the market that feature Fast wireless charging tech and can charge the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 at a 7.5W charging speed. 2.5Watts higher than the standard 5W with most wireless chargers. As a result, when it comes to charging with this PowerPort 10 charger, you end up with a 5W charging speed for all other Qi Compatible smartphones that aren’t Samsung smartphones.

So if you do have an iPhone X or an iPhone 8, just know that this charger is not able to deliver a 7.5W charging speed to it and that it’s better to look for alternatives.

Input Charging:

You should use a Quick Charge wall charger with this wireless charger, that way you’re able to receive the fast wireless charging capabilities from it. This charger uses a Micro-USB input, and it also comes with a Micro-USB charging cable or you can use the one that you have.

This charger DOES NOT come with an AC adapter, though.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size of some wireless chargers are large and for others they’re small. It mostly depends on how many coils they have and this one clearly has just a single coil, but we’ll get more into that later. This charger has a square shape with a length/width of 3.4 inches, and a thickness of 0.3 inches so it’s very thin and one of the thinnest wireless chargers on the market, actually.

No problems with the size.

Functional Components:

Using this wireless charger is easy like most wireless chargers are. That said, it’s also a very limited interaction charger at the same time.

First though, let’s just go over how to use this charger and what the lights on it mean. Once you connect the Micro-USB charging cable to this charger and it’s powered, you can then place your smartphone on top. Once your smartphone start charging there are small Blue LED lights that light up to show that your smartphone is charging. The lights are just a little bright, but they turn off after 10 seconds of being on.

Then there’s the use of a single charging coil. Most wireless charging pads on the market using just a single charging pad. That means you have to make sure that you are placing your smartphone right in the middle so that the coil within your smartphones and the coil from the wireless charger connect and actually charge. This can be a problem if you want to use your smartphone while it charges. As this is a small wireless charger and tapping at the top or bottom can offset the smartphone from the center of the charger.

If you want more of a better user experience then we highly recommend Anker’s Wireless charging stand or even RAVPower’s charging pad that uses 4 coils. Yeah, go check out our review on that one. As with the use of more coils you’re able to freely move your smartphone around without having to worry that it’ll stop charging.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this wireless charger is good, as it has a rubber top and the bottom of the charger has rubber pads to make sure that the charger itself doesn’t move around either.

Tech:

When this PowerPort 10 wireless charger is Fast Charging then it does get pretty warm, but if it’s standard charging, then the warmth is less. Nothing serious though, as a wireless charger getting warm is completely normal.

Reliability

It’s a very reliable, simple and powerful wireless charger if you own a Samsung smartphone as you’re able to receive the Fast Wireless charging power. Just subtract the powerful charging for any other brand of Qi Compatible smartphones and you’re left with reliability and simplicity. Charging power isn’t the most reliable for other smartphones such as the iPhone X/iPhone 8 and other Android smartphones.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is very good for Samsung smartphones, but the main fault is with it not providing fast charging for the iPhone X or iPhone 8.

Design:

It’s very small and easy to use. The LED lights help indicate charging and turn off after a few seconds. The use of a single coil is limiting, so it might help to get a wireless charger that uses more coils as you can use your smartphones while it wirelessly charges.

Build:

The build quality of this charger is pretty good, and it does get warm but that’s normal when it comes to wireless charging in general.

Reliability:

It’s a very simple and powerful charger for Samsung smartphones and Android smartphones in general. But if you have an iPhone 8 or iPhone X and want the fastest wireless charging, you’re going to have to look elsewhere.

Specs of the Anker PowerPort Wireless 10 Charging Pad:

  • Output:

Standard Wireless Charging: 5V/1.0A

Fast Wireless Charging: 5V/2.0A

  • Input:

Micro-USB input: Quick Charge Wall Charger

  • LED Power Indicator: A few Blue Dotted LED Indicators
  • Size: 3.4 x 3.4 x 0.3 inches
  • Weight: 3.5 Ounces

Conclusion:

This Anker PowerPort Wireless 10 charger is pretty good but we’re disappointed that Anker left fast charging for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 out.
