USB-C charging, in general, is very flexible because so many devices are compatible with it. Also, the best part is that you can now use a single charger for nearly all your portable devices because most devices use a USB-C port. Even if they don’t, such as an iPhone that still uses a Lightning port, you can still use a USB-C port to charge it using the correct cable.

In this review, we’re looking at this AOHI 40W Magcube PD fast charger. This is a tiny charger that packs a pretty good punch, just enough that you can use it to charge small and large devices. The charger’s design is great looking, too; not something you’d think about when it comes to a charger, but it stands out from the crowd.

Power

Output Charging:

So this isn’t the most powerful USB-C Power Delivery charger you can buy, but this AOHI charger does hit a good balance with a 40W max output and uses two USB-C ports. Each port can output 40W when charging a single device, but when charging two devices simultaneously, the 40W output does split between the two devices charging.

In our tests, we charged a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 from one of the USB-C ports, which only charged the laptop at about 5W. However, this was expected because most, if not all, Lenovo laptops require that you use at least a 45W charger with them, and anything lower will simply not fast charge their laptops. If you have a Macbook that can charge via USB-C, then this AOHI Magcube will have a better ability to charge it at a faster speed since Apple laptops can take advantage of all sorts of charging outputs.

So we don’t recommend this AOHI charger to be used for charging laptops, as it’s somewhat a wild card on how it’ll be able to set a laptop with a 40W output, but it’s safe to say that Macbooks would do well.

We also tested out charging a Samsung Galaxy S20 alone with the AOHI Magcube, and the S20 was able to super fast charge. This is because the USB-C ports also feature a Programmable Power Supply (PPS), which can charge compatible phones faster. We then connected an LG G7 while the Galaxy S20 was charging, and the S20 continued to super fast charge while the LG G7 was able to fast charge.

This AOHI 40W Magcube wall charger excels the most with fast-charging phones, either one at a time or when charging two phones simultaneously. You can also expect to fast charge tablets with ease, too.

Design

Size and Weight:

The charger is the definition of tiny, with a length of 1.9 inches, a width of 1.7 inches, and a thickness of 0.8 inches. With its foldable plug, you will not have trouble bringing this charger anywhere and everywhere; primarily because of its slim design, you easily place it into your pocket without it being uncomfortable.

Functional Components:

It’s just like using any other wall charger. Just unfold the plug and plug it into an outlet. The main difference, in this case, is that this AOHI Magcube has a LED power light at the front that changes colors depending on the charging status: green, blue, and amber. Green indicates trickle charging or standby when no devices are charging. Blue means standard charging, and the Amber light means fast charging.

Also, the Lemon Yellow color of the charger that we review looks fantastic! There are too many bland and plain-looking chargers on the market, and this yellow color on this pops, and we love it.

Having the ports at the bottom of the charger is an okay choice, but at the same time, when you want to plug a cable into the charger, you’re going to have to unplug the charger to see where the ports are.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this AOHI Magcube is excellent. The charger feels sold all around and lets you know that you bought this from a high-quality brand. The ports themselves have steel rims around them that look exquisite.

Tech:

The charger only got a little warm in our tests regarding fast charging the two phones. However, that is normal as heat is generated during charging for any charger.

Reliability

If you need a balanced PD charger that can charge phones, tablets, and laptops, consider this AOHI 40W Magcube. That said, on the laptop part, 40W single output is most reliable for Macbooks because they can accept lower wattage outputs from chargers, compared to Lenovo, Dell, and other brands laptops.

Using this charger with phones and tablets is very reliable, and adding PPS is another benefit for those devices that are compatible with the tech. Also, this charger doesn’t come with a cable, so you have to provide your own.

Summary:

Power:

The 40W max output is decent for charging laptops but should only be relied on for charging Macbooks. This charger is perfect for fast-charging tablets and phones, though.

Design:

The AOHI Magcube is incredibly compatible and can slide into your pocket without feeling awkward. There is a power light at the front that changes colors depending on the charging status, and we highly recommend the Yellow Lemon color of this charger because it’s beautiful and stands out from anything we’ve seen.

Build:

The charger has a strong build and will get warm during charging, but so do all chargers.

Reliability:

It’s best to rely on this charger AOHI Magcube for fast charging phones and tablets; for charging laptops, if you’ve got a Macbook, then you’re good to use this charger, but for most other USB-C chargeable laptops, it may not be able to charge them at an optimal speed.
