One of the most reliable power banks on earth are ones that are able to take falls and withstand water damage. Rather, they’re able to take water and not get damaged.

These kinds of portables chargers aren’t used by everyone, mostly because they’re usually larger than a traditional power bank that isn’t nearly as protected, they can also be heavier.

With that said, that’s why most people don’t like purchasing rugged power banks in fear that they may not be nearly as portable as the normal ones they see and use.

This isn’t always true though and that can be proved with this Mophie Powerstation Pro. We don’t review lots of Mophie portable chargers at Charger Harbor and we’re trying to fix that. This is where we start. With this surprisingly small and yet capable rugged Mophie power bank.

RAVPower 10,050mAh Rugged Power Bank

Power

Power Capacity:

The power capacity starts at 6,000mAh and it won’t go down too much during charging. This is because the power bank only has a single Output charging port with a charging speed of 5V/2.1A.

So even though it does not use batteries that would improve its conversion rates like LG or Panasonic batteries, the use of a single charging port is able to make conversion smooth enough during charging.

With that said, most of the time you’ll be able to get an Output power capacity of 5,000mAh. This is still a lot of power to charge smartphones, like iPhones about 3 times over. That’s really what this power bank is meant for, to charge devices that have as much power capacity or at least similar to that of smartphones.

Charging tablets will result in quite a bad experience.

We don’t mean to say that you can’t charge tablets with this portable charger, it’s perfectly possible.

However, the power capacity won’t be able to charge them to their full power capacities. Charging Mini tablets will be able to get them to about 70% of their full power, charging Full-Sized ones will bring them about 45% of the way through. So if you want to have multiple uses and longevity, it’s best to charge small devices.

Output Charging:

Even though you can only charge a single device, the charging speed is just enough at 5V/2.1A. We would have liked a Max standard charging speed of 5V/2.4A so you can charge tablets at their max charging speed, but that’s not the case here.

Instead, the case here is that you’ll be able to charge most smartphones at their max charging speeds, but you won’t be able to charge USB-C and Quick Charge compatible smartphones at their max charging speeds because this power bank doesn’t use those technologies.

For the most, the charging speed is mediocre and it’ll serve you well enough.

Input Charging:

It has a slow recharging speed of 5V/1.0A. So it doesn’t really matter what wall charger you’re using, so long as it’s a 1 Amp wall charger. This slow charging speed will result in a full recharge within 6 hours.

Size and Weight:

One of the best parts about this rugged power bank is just how small it is. Most portable chargers that are a shock, water and dustproof are large, but not the Mophie Powerstation Pro. It’s nearly as small as your smartphone and possibly smaller than your smartphone depending on what smartphone you own.

This is because it has a length of 4.5 inches, a width of 2.5 inches, and a thickness of 1 inch. So it’s small enough to easily be held in a hand and you can possibly fit it in your pocket if you’re comfortable with the thickness.

With that said, the main flaw with its design is that the power bank weighs 12.6 ounces, so it nearly weighs a pound. The heavyweight can mostly be attributed to its rugged build quality, though.

Functional Components:

The functional pieces are in a few different places, but overall, the portable charger is very easy to use. The power button is on a long side of the power bank and you can tell it’s the power button with its battery symbol. There are 4 Green power capacity indicators on the silver body of the charger.

Then the 2 main charging ports can be found under their protective waterproof flaps. So the Micro-USB Input port can be found under the waterproof flap that has a USB wall charger sign, and the USB Output port can be found under the flap that has smartphone symbol.

Charging automatically starts when you connect a device into the power bank for charging, so you can press the power button to simply check the power that’s left.

Build

Structure and Material:

Of course, here’s the strongest part of the Mophie Powerstation Pro. It’s mainly the build quality that’s going to make you purchase this power bank.

This is because once the charging flaps are closed and fully covering the charging ports, the power bank has an IP65 rating that makes it waterproof against water jets from a nozzle, and it’s also dust tight.

With that said, the Powerstation Pro is NOT waterproof when it’s submerged in water because then it would have an IP rating of IP 67 or higher. Check here for more info.

Also, the rubber protection around the power bank itself gives the power bank the ability to withstand harsh falls onto soft and hard grounds. All of these tough traits make the Powerstation Pro a highly capable portable charger to take with you in the wilderness.

Tech:

Not much is said about the Tech build regarding the Mophie Powerstation Pro and mostly because that’s not the part that matters most. However, it does make use of the basic safety tech builds that are able to keep you and your devices safe during charging.

Other than that, there’s not much about the tech build that makes it strong. Since it doesn’t use special batteries, fast Output charging or Input charging.

Reliability

We feel that this power bank is reliable solely because of how tough it is. Sure, it doesn’t’ have the fast charging times or the highest power capacity but it’s designed and build quality make it highly reliable to use in nearly any situation.

Even if you drop it, and have water spill on it, you won’t have to worry about it getting damaged (As long as the charging ports are covered). The small size is also very welcoming because you can basically take it anywhere.

Summary:

Power:

It doesn’t have that high of a power capacity or the fast charging speeds but it makes good use of what it has. If you’re using a smartphone with it, then that’s going to provide the best experience as you’ll get to use it a lot before the Powerstation needs a recharge.

Design:

Really small size, with a rather heavyweight. The charging ports are covered by flaps to protect them, and overall it’s easy to use and be portable with.

Build:

The strongest point of the portable charger because it can be waterproof and dust tight once you cover the charging ports. It can also take falls. It’s important to know, however, that it should not be submerged in water because that will cause damage to it.

Reliability:

With something this strong, of course, it’s reliable.
