Cons

  • It's priced quite highly

Faster charging is the main thing that we have to look forward to when it comes to the battery life and the way that we use our smartphones. We all want better battery tech, but that’s somewhat far away as new batteries have to be tested for the long-term to make sure that they’re safe to use. For now, though, fast charging technologies such as Quick Charge and USB-C Power Delivery are what we have to use. These charging technologies are used with many charging electronics such as USB wall chargers, portable chargers, and car chargers too.

One charging electronic that doesn’t have the fast charging speed are wireless chargers. Wireless chargers are quite a bit weaker than wired chargers but even so, there are have improvements with them. Such as this RAVPower Fast Wireless Charger that has fast wireless charging for both iPhone and Android Qi Compatible smartphones. So let’s see what its got.

Power

Output Charging:

When it comes wireless chargers, most of them have a charging rate of 5V/1.0A. A 1 Amp charging is very slow for most smartphones these days, and thankfully, there are faster wireless chargers such as this RAVPower wireless charger.

How does this RAVPower charger output faster charging? It’s because it uses a Quick Charge wall charger for its input and therefore it’s able to output faster charging. That’s basically how Fast charging works with wireless chargers, they use Quick Charge wall chargers as they provide more power.

With this charger, if you’re charging an iPhone 8 or iPhone X, it’ll have a 7.5W output or 5V/1.5A. While charging Android smartphones such as the Galaxy Note 8 or the Galaxy S8, and basically any other Qi compatible smartphones are able to be charged at a charging speed of 10W or 5V/2.0A.

We realize that 2 Amp charging is not the fastest that you can charge most smartphones with, as we mentioned above and that’s really how wireless charging is. As it’s not as powerful as wired charging. In terms of wireless charging though, with most wireless chargers have an output speed of 5V/1.0A, and this RAVPower one using a 5V/2.0A charging, it’s a pretty big step up and you’re going to notice a pretty big difference as your smartphone charges at a faster rate without anything plugged into it.

You just have to make sure that you’re using a Quick Charge wall charger and a Micro-USB cable to power this wireless charger. Luckily, both of those things come with the wireless charger. As it actually includes a single port Quick Charge AC adapter.

Input Charging:

The wireless charger comes with a Quick Charge wall charger to power this wireless charger to its full power right out of the box. You can also use the wall charger to charge your Quick Charge compatible smartphones at their max charging rate.

Design

Size and Weight:

The size and weight of this charger are going to hold zero problems. That’s because it has a length and width of 3.5 inches. The thickness of this charger is 0.6 inches. The weight of this charger is 4.8 ounces. So it can fit just perfectly on a computer desk without being disruptive at all.

Functional Components:

Using this wireless charger is as easy as it is to use other ones.

To the side of the charger is where you can connect the Micro-USB cable, and once that’s done, you’re ready to use it.

Once the charger is plugged in, there’s a small LED light that turns Red to indicate that it’s ready to charge, or if you have something else that can’t charge on the charger, then it blinks.

Once you have a device that’s charging, the LED light turns Orange to indicate that charging is taking place. Then the light turns Green once your smartphone is fully charged. However, something to know if you’re charging an iPhone X or iPhone 8 is that the LED light will stay Orange even if it’s fully charged and that’s because the iPhone doesn’t communicate with the charger. But Android smartphones do.

Build

Structure and Material:

This RAVPower Fast Wireless charger is one of the best-built ones that we’ve seen on the market. Parts of the charger are made of plastic and then the outer rim part is made of glass. The top and bottom have rubber rings to make sure that the charger doesn’t slide around and neither does your smartphone too.

Tech:

Like most wireless chargers, this one will heat up quite a bit and your smartphone will heat up a little too. It’s normal when it comes wireless charging and you shouldn’t be alarmed if either of the products is warm.

Reliability

This is one of the most reliable wireless chargers on the market and that’s because it can fast charge wirelessly for iPhones and Android phones. Both of those capabilities are present on most wireless chargers on the market but this one does have them.

Summary:

Power:

Charging power is optimal when you use a Quick Charge wall charger to power this wireless charger and it can offer 7.5W of power for the iPhone X and iPhone 8. While Android smartphones are able to get 10W.

Design:

It has a single LED light that changes between 3 colors, with each of them showing different stages of charging.

Build:

It’s one of the best built wireless chargers that we’ve ever used with a strong build quality and rubber grips on the top and bottom.

Reliability:

It’s a very reliable charger with the use of powerful wireless charging for both iPhones and Android smartphones.
