There are plenty of power banks on the market, and if you’re in the market for one that doesn’t have tons of charging power and want a charger that is more on the simple side, then this UGREEN power bank may be more of what you’re looking for. In this review, we’re taking a look at this UGREEN 10,000mAh 20W USB-C portable charger that has nearly everything you need to fast charge most, if not all, modern smartphones.

Power

Power Capacity:

The 10,000mAh power capacity of this UGREEN portable charger is average, and it’s a capacity meant for charging smartphones in general. However, at this point, with smartphones now using larger batteries, you’re going to be fair about a single full charge for most phones with this power bank, especially with iPhone 13 Pro Max having a 4,352mAh battery or the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra having a 5,000mAh battery. Combining these larger batteries with fast charging that causes more power loss during charging, you may get less of a full charge for phones with even larger batteries.

So you shouldn’t expect multiple total charges from this power bank for modern phones, but older phones may get another full charge. Tablets will require the full capacity to get to full power, but once again, 10,000mAh is not enough to charge most tablets to full power.

Output Charging:

Charging is simple from this UGREEN power bank, with it having only two ports.

One is a USB-A Quick Charge port, and the other is a 20W USB-C Power Delivery port. You can fast charge most Android smartphones from either the USB-A port or the USB-C port, but if you’re looking for a universal fast charging experience, we recommend sticking to the USB-C port. Also, you can fast-charge iPhones via the USB-C port with a USB-C to Lightning cable.

We were able to fast charge a Samsung Galaxy S20 via the USB-A port and the USB-C PD port in our tests. We also charged the Galaxy S20 and a Galaxy Note 9 phone simultaneously, and the two phones only did standard charging. That’s because the max output of this power bank is 15W when charging two phones simultaneously; therefore, you can only fast charge your phone if you’re charging it alone.

Input Charging:

To recharge the power bank, you have to use the USB-C port on the power bank, and you can recharge it at 18W with an 18W Power Delivery wall charger or higher. You may also use a Quick Charge USB-A wall charger.

Design

Size and Weight:

The power bank has a mini size with a length of 4 inches, a width of 2 inches, and a thickness of 0.9 inches. You can easily hold and charge your phone or place the power bank into your pocket.

Functional Components:

The two ports on the power bank are on the same side, and there is a power button off to the side. There’s no need to press the power button to begin charging because charging automatically starts once you plug a device into the power bank. You can press the power button to restart charging if it has stopped or to check the power capacity level via the four white LED lights on top of the power bank.

Build

Structure and Material:

The build quality of this UGREEN power bank is excellent, and we couldn’t find any loose parts or general parts of weakness. Of course, this isn’t a rugged power bank, so you should avoid dropping it or exposing it to water as it will get damaged.

Tech:

The power bank does get a little warm when you’re using fast charging from either the USB-C port or the USB-A port. A little bit of warming up is entirely normal as heat will always be generated during charging, and the power bank never gets hot.

Reliability

This UGREEN portable charger is most reliable for charging smartphones or tablets. That’s because the 10,000mAh power capacity can charge most phones to full power at least once, and some to full power twice, depending on the size of the phone’s battery. The power bank also features Quick Charge and Power Delivery, both of the most used fast charging technologies that can fast-charge most Android smartphones, and Power Delivery can be used to fast charge iPhones.

The box includes a USB-C to USB-A cable that lets you use the USB-A port right out of the box.

Summary:

Power:

There’s enough power to charge most phones to full power at least once and some to full power twice. Charging power is excellent for smartphones with the power bank using a USB-A Quick Charge port and a 20W USB-C Power Delivery port.

Design:

The power bank is tiny and can easily fit in your pocket. Charging automatically starts when you plug a device into the power bank.

Build:

The charger has a solid build, and there’s nothing to worry about if you place it into a backpack or purse. It’s built for everyday use. However, please don’t drop it or expose it to water as that may damage it.

Reliability:

The reliability of this power bank is at its peak when charging smartphones because of its power capacity and fast charging from both of its ports. It’s okay for charging tablets, and it’s not able to charge laptops as the 20W Power Delivery charge rate is not enough power.
