Most chargers on the market look the same, and some look pretty cool with their color of choice; however, for the most part, they’re the same. Brands such as GravaStar and UGREEN have taken a different path with chargers by making them into cute robots. Yes, these newly designed chargers at least hold character and are cool to look at.

I’m looking at UGREEN’s Nexode 65W RG robot charger in this review. I’ve already reviewed their 30W robot charger, which was also cool looking and had decent charging power from its single USB-C port. However, this 65W robot charger offers even more power to charge various devices.

What’s in the Box?

The only things you get in the box are the UGREEN 65W Robot charger and the manual. A USB-C cable is not included in the box.

Design and Size

The UGREEN 65W robot charger is small because it’s a GaN charger, which allows it to be smaller and still output lots of charging power. The charger length is about 2.5 inches and a width of 1.5 inches. A screen at the front of the charger shows a face during charging and when the charger is on standby.

At the top is where you’ll find the charging ports, and at the bottom is where you’ll find the removable shoes that expose the AC plug.

Charging Power

This UGREEN robot charger has two USB-C ports, a single USB-A port, and a 65W max output. The charger has a 65W max output. For single port charging, the USB-C 1 port can output 65W of Power Delivery, the USB-C 2 port can output 30W, and the USB-A port can output 22.5W.

For dual charging, if you’re charging from the two USB-C ports simultaneously, the USB-C 1 port will output 45W, and the USB-C 2 port will output 20W. At the same time, you are charging from the USB-C 1, and the USB-A port results in a 45W and 18W power split. If you charge from the USB-C 2 and the USB-A port simultaneously, the maximum output of the charger becomes 15W.

Then, for three devices charging simultaneously, the USB-C 1 port outputs 45W, and the USB-C 2 and the USB-A ports output 7.5W.

In my testing, I charged the UGREEN 145W power bank alone from the USB-C 1 and 2 ports and the USB-A ports alone. The UGREEN power bank could charge at 65W from the USB-C 1, it could charge at 35W from the USB-C 2 port, and the power bank recharged at about 10W from the USB-A port. The device you’re charging must have the right protocol to use the full 22.5W of single-port power from the USB-A port. Regardless, single-port charging worked how it was supposed to.

For dual-port charging, I continued charging my UGREEN power bank from the USB-C 1 port and charged my Excitrus power bank from the USB-C 2 port. The UGREEN power bank dropped to a 45W charging speed via the USB-C 1 port, and the Excitrus power bank charged at about 20W from the USB-C 2 port.

Then, charging three devices simultaneously, I plugged my Galaxy Note 9 into the USB-A port. The UGREEN power bank continued to charge at 45W, the Excitrus power bank charged at about 10W via the USB-C 2 port, and my Note 9 could only standard charge via the USB-A port. So, the power allocation worked precisely how it should when charging three devices.

Another three-device charging test I did was charging my Lenovo Flex 5 laptop from the USB-C 1 port and charging the Excitrus power bank via USB-C 2 and my Note 9 via the USB-A port. I could charge my Lenovo laptop at 40W while charging the power bank and my Note 9. Most laptops can charge from the USB-C 1 port on this UGREEN 65W robot charger, which is mainly what this UGREEN charger is meant for.

Conclusion

UGREEN’s Nexode 65W RG charger is an excellent addition to robot chargers. Regular chargers are fine but can be boring; this toy type of design with a high-powered charger is a nice take on a rather simple device. The UGREEN 65W RG charger is thankfully a powerful one in comparison to UGREEN’s 30W model. This charger can charge most USB-C laptops and other devices, while the 30W RG charger is mainly meant for charging phones or tablets.
