When it comes to high capacity power banks, a lot can be done with them.

This is mainly because high capacity power banks don’t aim to be small like mini power banks, and even though power banks, in general, are all portable, high capacity ones don’t have to be the most portable. Instead, the is the aim is to have a lot of capabilities with the power that it has.

These kinds of power banks go further with not only with their power capacities but also their charging ways.

This RAVPower 23,000mAh power bank is such a power bank that holds onto those capabilities because it has 3 very useful ways to charge your devices.

Power Capacity:

It has a high initial power capacity of 23,000mAh and for good reasons too, because the power bank can charge 2 USB chargeable devices as well as a Laptop using its DC Output port.

With that said, the Output power capacity that you’re going to receive is going to depend on how you’re using the power bank.

This is because using all 3 of the charging options is going to make more conversion of power happen and then you have more energy going through multiple charging cables and power is lost there too.

With that said, this power bank has a very good conversion rate of 75% and that means you’re going to be receiving about 17,200mAh of usable power capacity. It can still fluctuate depending on how you’re using the power bank, but the average conversion rate is 75%.

RAVPower for Smartphones

Most smartphones are going to be able to charge 6 times or more to their full power. Even the high-capacity smartphones like the Galaxy S7 and Google Pixel that have battery capacities at or near 3,000mAh are going to be able to charge 6 times to their full power. So smartphones that have low capacities than those are going to be able to charge a lot more times.

RAVPower for Mini Tablets

The power bank is also capable of charging tablets numerous times over. If you’re charging mini tablets like the iPad Mini 4 with its power capacity of 5,124mAh or a Galaxy Tab with a battery capacity of 4,000mAh, you’re going to be able to get about 3 full charges.

An iPad Mini 2 will be able to get 2.5 full charges because it has a slightly larger power capacity of 6,470mAh.

RAVPower for Full-Sized Tablets

If you plan on charging a Full-Sized 12 inch iPad with a capacity of 10,000mAh then that’s possible too because this RAVPower power bank can charge it 1.5 times.

RAVPower for Laptops

Last but not least, since this power bank can charge laptops, you also have to consider the number of times that it can charge yours.

In this case, we’re targeting a Dell Inspiron that has a battery capacity of 7,800mAh. If you do plan on charging a Dell laptop with a battery capacity that large, then it’s going to result in 2 full charges for a laptop. Not bad considering that this is a power bank and you sit wherever you want while the power bank charges your laptop.

Output Charging:

There are 3 charging options to use.

USB Ports:

The speeds of the USB ports are quite odd. This is because 1 of the ports has a charging speed of 5V/2.5A and the other one is capable of outputting 5V/1.0A.

You should always use the 5V/2.5A port first because it’s going to give you the faster-charging speed and only use the other port if you plan on charging 2 USB devices at once.

With that said, the power distribution of both of the ports is quite bad because one port has a lot of power and the other one just has a very slow charging speed.

The usual case with these high capacity power bank is charging power is shared through each of the ports. The Max Output of 3.5A with the USB ports would be best used if each of the two ports were able to Output 5V/2.4A, and so that way there wouldn’t be a compromise with one port.

DC Charging:

On the DC Charging side, the DC Port can deliver a charging speed of 9V/12V/16V/19V/20V – 4.5A.

4.5 Amps is the Max Output of the power bank. You have to note what the charging power requirements are for your laptop if you want it to charge at its max charging speed.

With that said, it’s quite amazing that this power bank can charge 3 devices at once, it’s just the 1 USB port that only has a charging speed of 5V/1.0A isn’t a very smart design choice to have with this power bank.

Input Charging:

The RAVPower power bank uses a DC Input to recharge itself because it’s a much faster way than using a Micro-USB method of recharging. The recharging speed is 12-24V / 2A and as a result, the power bank will be able to recharge within 6 hours.

It’s a very fast recharge speed and we’re glad that RAVPower went with a more efficient way of recharging.

Size and Weight:

The main thing to remember with power banks that have high power capacities and that are also able to charge laptops is that they’re going to be quite large.

This RAVPower power bank has a length of 7.2 inches, a width of 4.8 inches, and a thickness of 0.7 inches. The weight of the power bank is 1.2 pounds.

So it’s large and heavy, and not the type of power bank that you’d hold and charge a smartphone with. With that said, it’s still portable in the way that you can take it with you anywhere, place it down and charge your devices comfortably.

Functional Components:

On the Side:

All charging parts of the power bank can be found on the side, and that’s where you’ll be able to find the DC Output and Input ports, as well as the 2 USB Output ports.

On Top:

On top of the power bank is where there are a power button and an LCD screen that shows the power capacity in a percentage manner, as well as the Voltage that’s being outputted when it comes to charging a Laptop.

Charging automatically starts when you plug a device in either of the USB ports or the DC output port. You can change the Voltage amount that’s to be outputted when charging a Laptop by holding down the power button and then tapping the power button to select Voltage options of 9V/12V/16V/19V/20V.

Build

Structure and Material:

The entire power bank is made of plastic but it’s still built very well. A solid enough build quality that is going to be useful for everyday use but it’s best to not drop the power bank because it doesn’t have any reinforcements that can absorb shock damage in the event of a fall.

Tech:

On the tech side, this high capacity power bank doesn’t do anything too special other than making use of safety tech to keep you and your devices safe even when you’re charging 3 devices at once.

Reliability

This high capacity power bank is going to be perfect if you plan on charging your laptop with it. However, if you only plan on charging your smartphone or tablet with the device, then you’re only using half of what its main features are.

It’s a very portable power bank that’s able to charge laptops, and that’s how it’ll be most reliable, by charging laptops.

Summary:

Power:

There’s enough power capacity to charge smartphones, tablets, and laptops multiple times.

There are two USB ports, and even though it’s awesome that you can charge 2 USB devices at once, one USB port has a slow charging speed of 5V/1.0A. You can charge a laptop using the DC Output port, and that can result in being able to charge 3 devices at once.

Design:

It’s large and heavy, but that doesn’t mean it’s not portable. This high capacity power bank can be taken anywhere, it’s just that you’re going to have to set it down when you use it.

Build:

Nothing special about the build quality, but the power bank does hold its own and it’s quite sturdy which is great if you’re using it daily.

Reliability:

Even though it has a very high power capacity and 3 ways to charge devices. Using the DC Output to charge laptops is its signature feature that are going to give you optimal reliability.
