Cons

  • It makes only to purchase this wall charger if you plan on using the Type-C port, otherwise it's better to get a USB charging wall charger only
  • The Type-C to Type-C cable that it comes with isn't very good quality.
  • It blocks outlets when it's plugged into a Wall Outlet and it may fall out of an outlet if it's an old outlet.

USB Type-C is a new type of charging technology that is becoming more prevalent with the devices that we use commonly.

Smartphones are now starting to use them and even laptops like the new Macbook models. This is because Type-C is able to charge faster and is able to sync faster.

This type of new tech is an overall improvement to the charging experience and the implementation within power banks, wall chargers, and car chargers is an assurance that a new standard of faster charging is growing.

This Aukey wall charger takes advantage of the Type-C tech in a very objective way and those that use the Type-C cable to charge their devices should definitely look into purchasing this wall charger.

Power

USB Charging Port: 5V/2.4A

Type-C Port: 3.6-6.5V/3A | 6.5-9V/2A | 9-12V/1.5A

There are 2 options to charge from this Aukey wall charger. The USB charging port and the Type-C port. The USB charging port is just like any normal USB port and it’s able to Output 5V/2.4A.

The Type-C port is for devices that are compatible with Type-C port and you’d have to use a Type-C to Type-C port to take advantage of this port.

Overall, the charging speeds are great, because the USB charging port is able to Output 2.4 Amps, which is the max standard charging port and any devices like a smartphone or tablet are going to charge at their max speeds

If you’re using the Type-C port with a smartphone that’s compatible with Type-C then you can expect Quick Charge 3.0 levels of charging speed.

This is because the charging rates are: 3.6-6.5V/3A, 6.5-9V/2A, 9-12V/1.5A. There’s an increase in Amperage and Voltage, and charging at 3 Amps will result in your compatible smartphone to charge very quickly. Also, the Type-C port can be used to charge MacBooks that are charging compatible with Type-C.

Design

The size of the wall charger can very well be compared to the size of Aukey’s 3 Port USB wall charger. This one is 2.8 inches in length, 1.9 inches in width and 1 inch in thickness.

It’s quite a large wall charger for a 2-port wall charger. We say this because the size of the charger can actually cause problems with blocking another outlet on a wall outlet and this results in an outlet becoming useless because it’s covered.

This kind of design is thought to be obsolete, or at least that’s what we thought but alas here we are with the wall charger actually blocking the outlets.

A wall charger that’s been designed well, isn’t supposed to obstruct anything. Also, if you’ve got old outlets that haven’t been replaced for a long time, then this wall charger may fall out because of its back weight.

Although this shouldn’t be a problem for more modern outlets. The weight of the charger isn’t really a problem with it being 3.8 ounces and best of all, the plug pins are retractable to make traveling with it very easy.

Build

The physical build of the wall charger is really good and it doesn’t suffer from the frequent tragedy of the plug pins falling out like their 3-port wall charger was known to do. It’s made of plastic and there’s so sign of it wearing down even after constant use.

It comes with a Type-C to Type-C cable, but the cable isn’t really that high on quality since it’s been known to charge Type-C compatible devices at slower charging speeds than the stated charging speeds.

This is why we recommend getting quality charging cables for Type-C and we think it’s best to get cables in bundles because you never know how many devices you’re going to need a cable for.

Reliability

It’s a really reliable wall charger if you’re going to take advantage of the Type-C cable, and we’re gonna assume that you’re already going to use the USB charging port for some devices that you already have.

If you don’t have a device that’s compatible with Type-C, there’s not much reason to get this wall charger because it would just be like paying extra for a 1-Port wall charger.

Instead, we implore you to look at wall chargers with only USB charging ports if you don’t plan on using the Type-C port.

Summary

Power:

It’s a wall charger with power charging options, with UBS charging port being able to deliver 2.4 Amps and the Type-C port being able to deliver Quick Charge 3.0 charging speeds to Type-C compatible devices.

Design:

It’s a rather large 2-port wall charger and as a result, it can cover up Outlets when it’s connected to a wall outlet.

Also, if you’ve got old outlets, then the charger may fall out. Other than that, though, the charger is really portable with it having retractable plug pins.

Build:

The build is strong structurally and there aren’t signs of it wearing down even after constant use. However, the Type-C to Type-C cable that comes with the wall charger is somewhat low quality because it doesn’t provide the Quick Charge speeds that are stated.

Reliability:

It’s a reliable wall charger for those looking to use the Type-C port, and this is because if you’re not using the Type-C port, then you’re simply purchasing a 1 port wall charger. Taking advantage of the Type-C port is very important to get the most out of this wall charger.
